Will we soon have Johnny-cabs?

Interesting. Similar technology is used in aircraft to avoid mid air collisions, and is referred to as TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System). The system inquires and receives responses from aircraft transponders and compares that data to what is being sent from the onboard transponder of the sending aircraft. Based on set collision parameters (as based on time to impact) the aircraft communicate with each other the pilots to initate a climb or descent as necessary to safely manauever the aircraft away from the "impeding aircraft" and safely maintain distances from other transponder equipped aircraft. Pretty neat stuff.
