Here's the Guaranteed For Life claim the dealership sells itself on
Priorities4life | Priority Toyota of Chesapeake | Chesapeake

I look up the noise problem my car has been having and it's a problem officially addressed by Toyota for my specific car model and year. I found the official Toyota memo pdf stating the problem and the parts needed. It's a problem with the camshaft which is CLEARLY part of the engine.

So the service dept today calls me to tell me the estimate is $569. I was taken a back because I thought the engine is covered FOR LIFE. He tells me its out of warranty and the best he can do is have his manager call me. Do I have a legit argument?

I never heard of a lifetime warranty on a Toyota before.

Why would they need to one if you ask people on this board they will run forever, run off of butterfly farts.

There's a million and one ways those sleaze buckets can get out of covering work. You have to read and understand the fine print. For instance, you click on that link and it says right there you have to Just follow the manufacturer's service and maintenance recommendations at your Priority dealership.

*Non-factory limited warranty only.

Toyotas are the best cars on the road but there is a special place in hell for their dealers. Do you have the full text of the warranty you can show us?

You need to read the fine print on the warranty. Do you have that?

We're seeing more of the dealerships advertised crapola like this. Unless you buy the car new, have the dealership do all of the maintenance according to the owners manual, yer outa luck. There are certain engines, both 4 and V6s, that are subject to camshaft failures. It's a common thing unfortunately, for these to fail. It has to do with the morons at Toyota using the oil as a coolant on the front lobes of the camshaft. Oil is commonly used as a coolant and provides up to 20% of the cooling of an engine. But these camshafts are cooking the oil and it cooks it so bad it turns it to coke. Any that flakes off will surely flatten a cam as well as the coke material is akin to lava.
And Toyota is FAR from being the best car on the road. Ask the folks that have had to eat these engines and the folks with frame failures on the Taco. I hope that's not anybodys idea of "the best on the road".

Yeah, you can pretty much bet you changed the oil one time at a Jiffy Lube place or at your house or independent mechanic or even another dealer. Unlike the factory warranty where they actually have to make some sort of showing that your changing the oil wasn't the reason why the camshaft failed 150,000 miles after the fact, they can just point to that. Oh, nope. We see here that the oil wasn't changed at 20,000 miles by us. Not covered.

Which engine is it specifically? Just curious because I have a 09 xB with the 2.4L 4-cylinder. It has over 105K miles already and I'm hoping to get at least another 100K out of it, but I do get a slight ticking/rattling noise at idle, particularly when cold.
