I just recently got my license back 4 months ago after it being suspended for 6 months. I vaguely remember them saying i can not get pulled over for anything within 6 months. Well here i am on the 4th month and i just recieved a reckless ticket for 78/55. I need help i can explain my situation more thoroughly if someone knows the situation i am in and can help me prevent jail time, and enlarged fines and suspended license.
Not all of life's lessons are easily learned. Assuming the cop got it right, Cory, I want to thank him for doing his job and helping to keep the roads safer for the rest of us. Unless you were headed to a fire or an emergency room 78/55 is excessive. And if you don't agree then you still haven't learned. I'm sure you're a nice person with many great attributes but driving a motor vehicle in a safe and reasonable manner just isn't one of them.

Maybe you need to spend a little time and jail. I just read an article in the L.A. Times today about a woman and her two children (one 4 months old) who are all in the hospital in critical condition tonight thanks to a reckless driver who ran into them while she was taking her children out of the car.
I have two major things to say. First, PULEEZ people. 78/55 is, no doubt, excessive. But, unless Minnesota is the exception to the rule (which I know it isn't in this case because I have driven cross-country & back), it is a regular occurrence to drive that fast on the freeway. At least to 70 - and higher.
I nearly get run off the road because I set my friggin cruise control to a couple miles above the speed limit (57/55) & stay there. I'm not even safe in the slow lane. I was in two "coulda been deadly" car accidents that have left me disabled (no, not my fault - 'cept that I was there). I am in no hurry. But, there doesn't seem to be another living soul who feels the same way.
It is ridiculous that folks need to go that fast - but you all are acting like this person is an oddity or something.
That all being said (and not intended as a justification or excuse for the OP's choices) --
My second thing is that, yes, with all your offenses, you likely do need to stop driving for a while. You definitely need to find yourself an attorney. But, you truly should be paying a reasonable consequence for you continued poor choices. Depending upon what all of them are - perhaps even some weekends in jail (something our state allows to serve a shorter jail term - so you can maintain your employment). You definitely need some stiff fines & a perhaps even a revoked license for a time.
Someone said that not all lessons can be learned the easy way - too true! You may need to man-up & bear the burden of your poor choices.
Okay, one more thing - if you get a good attorney - you could likely stall the current ticket till the old one reaches 1 year - which will ease the burden a bit. You may even be able to do that on your own - not certain how complicated it is to stall court dates continually. Also, here in Minnesota, from one county to another there is very little communication about speeding tickets & such. If you have gotten one in one county & another in yet another county - there may be a way to bear a lesser burden - again, need legal advice.
I didn't tell you that to get you off the hook - I think everyone should not only know their own rights - but bear their own responsibilities too. Speed really does kill - you shouldn't take all this lightly. You are very fortunate that you didn't harm yourself or anyone else with your driving.
Best advise to you is to hang up the keys....sell the car....and take the bus.......
I agree...............my bus is full of bad drivers............through no fault of their own got caught by the "evil" cops?!..............last one told me the cops caught him doin "donuts" in the middle of a busy intersection...........finally i told him "you have to sit down Siiiirr.............Bad Drivers sit on the left................everyone else on the right"................last i heard of him.............in an embarrassed tone, to another passenger.............."Is this where the bad drivers sit"??...............
..........my advice to Cory...............you messed up, take your medicine, enjoy my smooth ride.................the fares 2.50.............your vehicle is not a toy............it is a lethal weapon...........that could ruin your life, other motorists and innocent pedestrians............anyone can press on the gas pedal harder...............but can you drive safely?

Was it just a speeding ticket or reckless driving ticket? Reckless driving - pretty serious. In any event you need to lawyer up. I don't think you will do time in the graybar hotel but you are looking at some hefty fines and some serious further suspension time.
Shell out for the lawyer, they can help a heck of alot to change the reckless to a lessor charge, minimize your suspension, etc.
for the OP, you need to learn how to smell the cops.. when I had my license suspended at 16 (three speeding and one running a stop sign tickets in less than a year) I learned how to literally tell a car by its headlights and I could tell every one of them coming at me and behind me. It's a pretty cool trick to learn.. I also actually drove the speed limit during my probation period. Having to ride a bicycle for four days was awful and taught me how to appreciate the driving privilege.. luckily my dad knew this high power attorney and hooked me up, otherwise I was stuck with a year of suspension and no driving with anyone under 25 for two years..
BTW, 78 in a 55 is reckless? I do that and more pretty much every morning on my way to work, BUT, I'm usually on the road alone and it's about 5:00 AM and the road is brand new and super smooth.. I'd also recommend a radar detector. I have one in all my cars..
