I was driving back from Charlotte in my 12 Mustang GT when a red Camaro pulled up along side of me at a stop light. I could not see the driver because all I could see was the side of his car and all I could do was laugh. I guess he thought he was showing me something really cool but all I thought was how hideous his car looked.
I don't know if this was the same car but it did look very similar.
I'll say it's thier taste in cars. I personally can't stand them !
I've finally gotten over the donk shock value but it's still makes me shake my head when I see a pos car with really nice rims on it. Even more so if it's donked out.
Ahh...
It's all just the latest in the Grand Tradition of American hot rods.
Whenever something automotive is popular, there will be those who go overboard. Hey- if a little is good, a LOT more must be better, right?
I remember all the vans back in the 70's that were totally overcooked. I painted the murals on a lot of 'em. And I did a lot of hot rods when they were treasured overdone crown jewels.
It's interesting that these days, the latest thing in hot rods are the rat rods. The carefully a brand new '32 Ford body is scuffed, rusted artificially, sandblasted until the shine has gone from the paint, and filled with fake .22 plinker holes that are all carefully filled with putty, the better they rodders like them. No more custom pearl and highly polished aftermarket cam covers and all that stuff anymore.
To me, donk is just going to extremes. Funky donk is just the same as flashy donk.
The big wheels will last for a couple of years, then go the way of the neon tubing that was so popular back in the 90's. Same goes for all the camo painted mud trucks that never go out of the city limits.
A guy's car is and always has been a big display of who he either is or wants to be. Nothing new about that; carriages and coaches were done up the same ways, long before cars existed.
