This seemed like the most logical place to post this...

I do not want this to become an arguement thread.

I honestly would like to hear from the folks who opt not to wear seatbelts. Why do you choose to not wear them? Personal experience or story? Don't like being told what to do by the government? Etc...?

I don't like wearing seatbelts but I do as there are far too many idiots driving on the roads nowadays.

I think it’s safe to say that in the vast majority of cases the cause is ignorance.

Since seatbelts are flexible one might ask how do they hold you in place? Seatbelts are designed so that the machinery behind them tightens up the belt to hold the passenger in place when the car decelerates quickly.

I have a friend that has never worn one since her best friend in high school was beheaded by her seat belt in a rare unfortunate accident.

seatbelts can prove an accurate risk for individuals who are to short to use one properly, which is why booster seats became the big deal that they are today. If you're under a certain height, and the belt doesn't come across your chest the way it should, it can be more danger to you than provide any added safety.

Speaking of seatbelt technology, the most impressive seatbelts I've seen yet were the ones in a Merc 6.3 AMG I rode in while in Germany. During hard braking, and sharp turns the seatbelts didn't do the typical "yank-grab" that a typical belt does, instead it ratcheted itself back, and pulled you from your forward position back into the seat and held you there for a predetermined amount of time...then the belt tension would relax back to normal...friggin germans.

Guess I shouldn't answer since I always wear mine. I won't put the car into gear unless all passengers are buckled as well.

I have disabled the chime for the seat-belts in all of my vehicles.
It's a rare occasion they move without tho occupants wearing them.
But at times I/ we can be seen sitting on the roll bar of the jeep and steering with my feet as we putt down a mellow trail. (4lo&1st gear)
