I think car companies are trying to appeal to the under-35 demographic who're accustomed to multi-tasking with their smartphones, ipods & ipads while driving anyway. I seriously know scores of idiotic friends & family members who view driving as a chore & would rather be emailing, txting or Facebooking instead of stuck in their cars. In some ways these tech interfaces are gadgets designed to entertain drivers instead of focusing their attention on the road. Car companies don't want to admit it, but it's eye candy.

I use an 8gb thumb drive but even then you pretty much have to remember what is on it since you cant really spend a lot of time "scanning" the library. It is voice activated but you can only play by artist (example "Play" - "USB" - "BeeGees"). You cant pick a song and frankly by the time I have said all of that I can just push the buttons.
No it doesn't. The 2010 Taurus didnt come with MFT. I think it was either 2012 or 2013 model year..

My wife has a 2012 Edge with MFT and she likes it. I messed with it and am not totally sold on it. I think her next car prob wont have it but it seems all car makers are going to some type of infotainment system....

My Focus has the MFT system and it's OK. The features I most often use are duplicated by regular controls anyway. It was on the car I wanted and so I have it, no big deal one way or the other. I sure wouldn't let it's presence keep me from buying a car I otherwise liked, obviously.

We have a escape with myford touch. We have very little to complain about and the latest update seemed to fix a few of the complaints we have.

My mistake. My SHO has SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation. Either way, my point is still the same.

Anyway there are other systems out there which I do like. For example Volvo has buttons all over the place for this or that (in addition to computer screen stuff). Also with new Volvos, many things are "automatic" so you don't need to take your eyes off the road to press a button. Sort of "the car will take care of that for you", you just keep your eyes on the road.
Microsoft contributed a lot to Ford's SYNC. Not so much to MyTouch. Ford doesn't write operating systems or develop microprocessors so they need help. Ford does most of the programming.

Windows 7 is excellent. If Microsoft developed the logic for Ford's system - it would work much better. And if it needed a bug fix, it would download automatically.

This is almost 100% Ford's fault.
