True story, first hand stuff.

I bought a Kawi Z1R as a project bike, with a "rebuilt" motor. Well, being the cautious type I decided to check the DPO's work before firing up the bike and found some, um, "anomalies"

The cam timing was hopelessly off. Not even close. I noticed this when I checked the valve clearance and found that while the clearances varied wildly all of the shims were the exact same thickness. So then I opened up the motor and found that the head gasket

and the base gasket

were sealed with bathtub silicone caulk and not a particularly good grade of it.
