I have a dilemma... my 2000 Toyota Camry's engine died about 2 months ago. However, the actual vehicle is still sitting in my driveway and I need to get something out of there.

The black lock/unlock remote doesn't work anymore. The remote still worked about 3 weeks ago...so I'm surprised it stopped now. I've also replaced the CR2032 battery to no avail.

If I use my physical key to open the doors, does anyone know if that will or will not set off the car alarm? The last thing I want to do is have the alarm blaring endlessly with no way to stop it. That would be super embarrasing and my neighbors will want to kill me.

You may have replaced the remote's battery, but it sounds like your car battery has died, which is why the remote isn't working. If that's the case, then no, the alarm won't go off, because your battery has been drained.

yep, sounds like the battery in the car is dead. If thats the case, no the alarm will not go off. If it dose go off, just turn the ignition to run(not on) and the alarm will stop. If that dosnt work, just unhook the negative cable from the battery

Ah, that makes sense, especially since the battery has been untouched for almost 2 months (except for the aforementioned quick instance about 3 weeks ago) since I don't use the car anymore.

Dumb Question 2: what if the battery is still up and the alarm goes off? Do I just pop the hood and disconnect the battery? Or does the alarm have a separate mechanism that requires further tinkering beyond disconnecting the battery?

Ah, that's exactly the info I was looking for!

Cautionary Note:
OP: Your 2000 Toyota Camry's probably OK if you disconnect the battery, but I thought I should add for other readers that newer cars are VERY sensitive to battery disconnects.

A lot of cars, (including mine), have computers in everything except the floor mats. They run, and when left in the garage, they power down and 'hibernate' just like a PC. It never totally goes asleep, and disconnection from the power source can require a full reprogramming by the dealer. (IE: "rebooting" is way more complex for the car than a PC).

Oh, and my car's alarm is also silenced by turning the ignition key.

I don't use my FOB...why, I will just lose it or step on it.

I turn my key to the left and then right....no alarm or horn.

To turn off alarm once on... turn key to left.
