Chevelles appear to be the usual victims. I guess they are the base model variety but are done up with stripes, manual transmission, and big inch V8s. They are usually wrecked as well.

I don't find this to be a trend. Sometime an action film will have a classic and sometimes all you'll see are modern cars.

Tom Cruise drove both a Camaro(mid-late 70s) and Chevelle in his film Jack Reacher
The Rock has used a Chevelle twice- Faster and Walking Tall

I could make a full list but why? Either one has or has not observed.

There were many more action movies in that same time frame that do not have a classic vehicle.

It's probably because GM and Chrysler can no longer pay for product placement...and Ford is no longer willing to.

I wouldn't say this is a "recent" trend, but one that's been going on for years. A few movies I can rmeember off hand that used what are now considered classics that were damaged in some way....

2001...The Fast And The Furious made use of a 70 Charger. (wrecked it of course)

2001...Vanilla Sky...Tom Cruise drives a 68 Mustang and Cameron Diaz droves a 72 Skylark, that she wrecks with Tom Cruise also in it.

2003...Just Married...Ashton Kutcher wrecks his 70 Challenger

2004...Starsky and Hutch...at least 2 Torinos destroyed

2010...The Other Guys....2 Chevelles are destroyed in the movie.

Then you have the other Fast And Furipus movies where they destroy a 69 Camaro, an 85 Grand National, a 72 Torino, a 70 Camaro, a 70 Chevelle and countless other cars.

Yeah I'd be willing to wager, all of the classics in movies are the garden variety type, and not one of the more top of the line types, though it's still sad to see any old iron wasted in a movie IMO.

A list would help prove your point. And define "recent". Walking Tall was made in 2004.

When did muscle cars cease starring in movies? It's been pretty steady.
