The Millionaire Next Door is someone who makes a modest/decent salary who makes sensible and frugal life choices in order to save a lot of money over their lifetime.
Some millionaires actually make six or seven figure salaries. These people aren't 'set back' when they buy an $80k car. They barely notice it.

And usually when there's a big salary...there's an even bigger bonus!
People buy cars for several reasons, and I'm going to assume most rich folks qualify as "people." The following is somewhat tongue in cheek, but probably also isn't all THAT far from reality in general.
1. To get from point A to point B. People in this category are generally looking for appliances, and don't particularly care about the car beyond it fulfilling it's transport duties for X number of people. I figure they'll buy anything but generally gravitate towards Chevy, Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, among others.
2. To get from point A to point B and have fun doing it. These people are referred to as "enthusiasts" and enjoy driving for the sake of driving. What they may purchase could depend on price point and current assets, but some might be willing to leverage themselves highly to get a high priced car. People in this category might buy Mazdas, BMWs, Porshes, select Hondas and Subarus, Infinitis, possibly Audis, or the odd Mustang or Corvette, among others, depending on if they have a secondary goal to impress others or not.
3. To keep up with the Joneses, and to heck with points A and B. These people don't care about cars or driving in any way. They want to project an image, and want to make very sure you see the image they project. These are the people driving blinged out Chrysler 300s, but can also be found behind the wheel of Mercedes, select BMW, Lexus, Rolls, and Bentley vehicles, depending on the resources available to them. Most "supercars" would also end up in this category, since there is no logical reason to drive a 200 MPH capable car on roads that are not capable of allowing them to go more than 100 MPH without shaking them to pieces. Actual driving enthusiasts look at such people with great disdain, BTW.
Rich people drive what they want to drive. They don't have constraints. Some want to drive fancy cars like Lamborghini's, Bently's or top of the line Benz. Others may want to drive Toyotas or Fords. It's really whatever they want.
Chevy and Ford sedans and pickups and a couple Jeeps.
Most rich people I know play it very low key, especially with the vehicles they drive. The richest I know has a modest home, drives a pickup truck most of the time, and lives on a ranch worth $200 million or so. To talk to them you'd never guess they were wealthy at all -- ranchers who struck it rich with minerals and have no desire to make a life change.
Aunt in Ohio....worth maybe 10mil (yes I married the wrong cousin lol) Drives a Toyota 4-runner.
Late uncle in b'ham drove a 98 vette.
They could both afford all the luxury cars, but don't seen the need.
