I don't know about everyone else here, and where they live, but I'm starting to see more and more Camaros from 1982 through 1992, before Chevrolet went to the body style I wasn't too thrilled about in 1993. Does anybody else here have a feeling that this particular generation of Camaros is making a come-back? I've seen 3 of them last week, and one very sharp late 1980s/early 1990s RS this morning on the way to work, all except one were fully restored, the one Z-28 sounded like the power-train was restored, it just needed a new paint job.
I wish american car magazines like english ones published 0-60 stats back then. Ive always wondered how long an 80s 2.5 iron duke camaro takes to get to 60.
I've had 3 gen3's over the years, '83 '85z '86iroc all we're good handle rides much better than any of the mustangs of that era... even the 'vette of the day could'nt hang... there is a nice factory rag top '87iroc (white) 4 sale down the street but me cannot afford only wish I could, they are scarce in mint condition.
I am not sure they can really make a come back. However many are left is it, and I am sure there are a lot of old clunker Camaros still on the roads.
I could see them starting to garner more interest from people looking to restore them, fix them up, or do things to keep and preserve them at this stage. In that vein, I could see an increase in fixed up Camaros of that era starting to pop up. Not in any huge numbers, but some.
I have not noticed it here, but it's winter, so any that are being kept are not out on the roads.
When I lived IN southern California there were quite a lot of them. They were very popular with young hispanic men.
Persoanlly I never liked them. I love the body style of the Gen 4, probably one of the prettiest GM cars ever IMO. Some people hate it. Luckily tastes are different that way we do not all end up wanting the same car.
One of those Gen 3 camaros had something like 80 HP. I do not remember which one, but i knoew some p[eople who had them. That is when I really started disliking them. Already thought they were ugly, but when they could not outrun my Hoda CvCC with a 20 hp or whatever they had . . . Embarrasing to call it a camaro.
That is also my favorite style Camaro... IMO its just the stereotypical 80's in-your-face American muscle car. Sometime in the future I have plans of getting one to completely overhaul it into the best road racer it can physically be. Every time I go into the shop I am reminded of this project by the LT1 (out of an old Caprice interceptor) sitting in the corner, the very engine that the project WILL be centered around. I am going to build a turbo monster out of that thing. I can picture this car with the custom paint scheme I want along with the louvers in the back... It will be cool to be blasting around in that car in the 2020's or 2030's with Foreigner and Van Halen pumping out the speakers. No mullet though, sorry lol.
I have nothing against them but they are underpowered with just stock and they can be a challenge with handling.
Agreed, though a Camaro will never be a Corvette or Porsche and is not meant to be. Lackluster body style too on the 80's model IMO. The Camaro's from the late 60's and early 70's, like the one you see in the movie Better Off Dead is by far the most beautiful body style for these cars IMO.
