I am in the middle of a car search and my attention has been drawn to several cars. I am looking at a couple of Maximas, one with 98,000 miles and the other with about 125,000 both are '01. There are a few 2nd generation DSMs (Eclipse/Talon) a '96 and '97 Talon TSI. The '97 has 124,000 and the '96 has 106,000. Two eclipses both '95 one needs minor work done for sure with 104,000mi and the other is supposedly in good condition and has 122,000mi on it. The Mustang has 138,000mi and is said to need a tune up and is a 95. There is also another 95 stang that has 90000mi on it, but it is a little more than what I am trying to spend. I was also considering two Lincoln LS. They have 116,000mi and 134,000 respectively. And there is a Grand Prix GTP that has 108,000mi. I assume I will not be able to see and drive all of them before others buy them so I wanted to get some advice on where I should start. I am hoping that someone owns one of these cars or has experience with them. What ever car I purchase will not be my only car, but will be my highway driver to school. The Maximas and the Grand Prix GTP are at the very top of my price range. The DSMs and the one mustang are the cheapest.

Our 1st Eclipse, 94, we bought with 140 000 miles on it. Son drove it daily into around 300 000 miles without any issues. Regular maintenance. Oil taker, but all Mitsubishes are that way. @nd one, little one put 100 000 mile son it, 95, without any major repairs. Alternator. That's it.
But unless you buy turboed one, they are pretty lame.

V6 Mustang? 94/95 were poor years. Head gasket issues and underpowered. Fuel economy on highway pretty poor too...comparable to the 5.0 v8.

Lincoln LSs go for short money and get decent highway mileage.

Of your list, I'd probably lean towards the maxima for a daily commuter sort of vehicle.

I actually own a Mustang 5.0 and an Infiniti (Nissan) G35. Both cars have been quite reliable and low-cost for me.

GP gtp would be on my list, maybe the mustang. 95 is still the 5.0 and is a pretty reliable setup. But it is 18 years ago.

I meant to specify that the mustangs are gt's.

Yea, they are both turbos. They are the GSX models.

I have an 01 Maxima right now that we bought new and I have never had to bring it in for service but it only has 70k miles. I also had a 95 GT Mustang that had 105 K miles and it ran great. so both of those cars I like. The Maxima is a better car for comfort, the Mustang was more Fun.

Stay away from those. They're cool cars but mechanical nightmares. I had a 92 Talon AWD and the 2nd gen DSM's had even more problems than the 1st gens.

I'd go for the Maxima probably.

Hey Mike, good to see you someplace besides the Mustang forums!

I have to agree with the info posted. The Maxima is a good all around car, and I would not mind having one as a daily driver. A former boss had one for over 200K and her mother drove it for another 50K. She bought a replacement and drove that one for 100K before she traded it in on a SUV. Just make sure all the maintenance such as timing belt is done. (I think they still had them in 01). The Mustangs if they are GTs, have the 5.0 motor and it is very good if well maintained. I got over 306,000 miles on mine as a daily driver before it blew.

Good luck on it.

Would go for Maxima and speak from experience.

Of course drive them first and make sure there has been no major accidents, big rust issues, vibration, etc.
