A regular one for me is walking away from my car while the gas tank is filling up at the gas station. Oh and right turn on red when the sign says you cannot, I do that frequently. Also sitting at a light at 3 a.m. and no one is around, sometimes I will just go through it after a while. Driving while impaired in some manner (not drunk, but tired, sick, etc)..
I don't do any of those things and while I think most of your posts are awesome, this is simply terrible.

I do very few of those things that Coldjensens mentioned, but my job has me driving in small residential areas much of the time, and there I'm a constant rolling violation. I'm not about to buckle up to drive a block or two, I'm on the wrong side of the road about as often as not, I don't signal unless I have traffic behind me or oncoming (if even then), I'll stop in the middle of the road and get out for a couple seconds (to take a picture), I cut corners something awful. In short, I could be considered a horrible driver... but I'm much better than all the other drivers I see on the road.

I'll admit I regularly speed, sometimes as fast as 15 mph over the speed limit (50 in a 35), sometimes I make a turn when it says no turn on red. Over all I think I obey most traffic laws and believe I'm a pretty safe driver. Usually I don't try to race thru the intersection to beat the red light.

I did however pass a school bus once, he stopped and wasn't doing anything so I passed him only to realize he had his red flashing light on. Yes I was at fault, but the bus driver is suppose to slow down an put on the yellow flashing lights then stop with the red flashing lights. Not just stop and then put the lights on.

There's one intersection with a left turn arrow. Every Sunday that I end up stuck at that arrow, I will go ahead and turn. Why? It is an excruciatingly long wait, plus there almost never any other cars there, especially no cars coming the opposite way. That arrow should be a flashing arrow that day of the week. If I get caught, oh well, but so far I haven't

I focus on driving while I am driving and seldom break any traffic laws.

It is illegal. $250 fine I am told.

LARA - Self Service Stations

I've seen little signs on pumps stating the above in just about every state, I think.
I break that one regularly, since I stick the hose in then de-clutter that vehicle of trash, wash windows, lights and mirrors, etc, while filling up.
Probably I speed on a daily basis, although often not much more than five over.

I do not.

Exampe: My fathers dirt road gets maybe three cars a day. The intersection with the next simlar dirt road has a clear view of all directions as you approach it. Roughly 50-60% of the people just slow down and bit and blow through it. It makes no sense to stop plus it wastes gas, tears up the road, puts wear on your car. Why bother?

Approaching a traffic light that turns yellow, you have to decide whether to speed up and go thorugh or jamb on the brakes. IN some states (Calfirinia being one) if you hit the brakes on a yellow, the guy behind you will probably hit you because he is speeding up to gt trhough and assuming you will do the same. My dad stops on yellow and in Calfornia he has nearly been hit or nearly caused accidents many times. however sometimes, you speed up, but not enough and you do nto clear the intersection the instant it turns red. Illegal yes, dangerous, no. No car can accellerate fast enough from a stop to hit you before you are through the intersection.

I stopped suddenly just today, There was a plastic clip from a car in the fast lane. I could nto tellwhat it was, looked like a giant metal thing. Car on the right and the car in front of me went over on the shoulder while jamming the brakes. I hit the brakes hard to try to avoid hitting it (failed). Luckily it was just plastic and luckily the guy behind me was paying attention and not tailgating.

I really do nto believe anyone who says they use their turn signal 100% of the time. For several reasons. 1 no ne is perfect even if they think they are. 2. When I drive less than 10% of the other drivers ever use their signals. It cannot be the same 10% using them 100% of the time. 3. There are frequently reasons you do not use the turn signal. For example, you flick it but miss or do not hit it hard enough and it pops off. You are shifting with your right hand and steering with your left and cannot get to the turn signal. You are holding something in one hand while driving. Yes you are not supposed to do that, but most people do on occaision.

Pretty much everyone who drinks, has driven after drinking. Unless you have the weight/consumption tables memorized, you have no idea whether you are at the limit. You cannot tell by feeling it. The limit is surprisingly low. I weigh over 200 pounds, but if I have three beers in an hour, I am probably at the limit. If I never drove when tired, Iwoudl never drive. I have difficlty staying asleep and I am always tired. I have not been at my best more than a few times a week for over ten years. Technically when you are tired, you are impared. Your reaction time is slower, you vision is weaker, your thinking can be slowed.

Also I am sorry, but I am not gong to sit at an entirely empty intersection at 3 a.m. and wait for the light to cycle through all the left turns and cross traffic just so I can cross a completely empty street. To me that is just dumb.

Laws do not need to be blindly followed. They need to be followed with common sense. Using a turn signal in a completely empty street is requried, but it is dumb.

Likewise putting on your seat belt to drive 100 feet and take it off again makes no sense. You are safer for two seconds. Except that with no other cars around, you are not safer either way.

Some laws do not make any sense. Why are U turns legal in Californa but illegal in Michigan? You would say it is safe and legal to do it in California, but when in Michigan it is shocking? Why is it safe to drive 70 MPH in Michigan but only 65 in indiana? There is nothign different. It is just an arbitrarily imposed number. I will drive at a safe speed for my car, conditions and my status. THe only reason I care about the arbitrarily imposed numbers is I might get a ticket, or I might hold up traffic.

I think it is illegal for me to drive with my cockatoo on my shoulder or a dog loose in the car. I do that regularly. Sometimes the kids sit in the back of the pick up on a run into town or over to a neighbor house and people always ride in the pick up bed during our local community clean up. Swerving out of your lane to avoid a pot hole is often illegal especially when there is a double yellow line. I did that at least ten times today. Driving on the shoulder to go around a line up of cars turning left and waiting five minutes per car (not illegal where there is a lane for that, but illegal where there is just gravel. Going around a railroad gate that is malfunctioning (usually I have someone get out of the car and check for trains, doing that makes me very nervous). When there is snow, I have no idea at times whether I am driving in a lane, or even on the road for that matter. That is also illegal. Backing up on the shoulder of a freeway to a missed exit - done that a time or two. Driving with a headlight, turn signal or one brake light out. Toasting ricers out of a light - almost never, but once in a blue moon. Driving single in the carpool lane in an "emergency" (like I will lose the case/client and/or get fired if I am not on time to a court hearing). Slipping down a one way street a few feet in the wrong direction to a driveway. Speeding - probably at least a minute or two on every road or street (except where kids are around or in our community where people are all over the roads, then I crawl. Otherwise, there is probably some point at which I get at least 2-3 MPH over and on freeways, frequently a lot over. Forgetting to turn off brights - done that a few times. Driving while distracted - yup. Even tailgating once in a rare while because I am in a hurry and not really thinning about it and then I realize 'Hey I am too close to that guy" and back off (I hate tailgating). Driving too slow on the freeway because your car is malfunctioning? Excusable, but still illegal. Reckless driving on the way to a hospital - done that - probably reckless is subjective, but 90 in a 35 mph zone was probably reckless, however the cop who stopped me just gave me an escort to the hospital instead of a ticket.). Sitting at a green light because I am eating, or looking at my smart phone when it turns. No wearing a seat belt (unusual, but I have done that). Towing a car with a chain and the car has no lights, or no brakes or no something else. Towing a trailer when the lights are not working. I would normally say I always signal, never tailgate, etc, but always simply is not true. I probably signal 99.8% of the time, or maybe only 97%. Sometimes you forget things.

I am an unusually good and alert driver compared to most of the people I know, but I still make all these mistakes at times (sometimes on purpose).
This post is awesome!

I have done what is highlighted and some of them I do everyday!!
