Are all states like this now? (2011, drivers, speeding, ticket)

In NY if you don't answer a traffic ticket by the due date your license is immediately suspended until you answer the ticket. Are all states like this now? I think in NY there were always late surcharges but im curious did they ever offer an extended grace period beyond the 15 days? whenever i tell others like coworkers that if the DMV doesn't receive the response by the due date I am told it's not true that they will suspend

Not only that, but most states have agreements to share information, so if you leave one with an unpaid ticket you will not be able to get a license in another. Far too many people
ignore their violations, and the states need the revenue. Driving with a suspended license is likely a much bigger fine than the original ticket.
This happened to me in NC. They couldn't take my license since it belonged to another state and wasn't theirs, but suspended my "privilege" to drive in NC until it was paid.

And now you understand why this "right" is called a "privilege" by the government. So they can revoke it without getting involved with messy Constitutional issues.
It's what happens in a police state when you are judged guilty and punished without due process. Get used to it.

In NY, "responding" means just that. Responding, not ignoring. The OP generally would only have to mail it back with a plea of "not guilty" to get a court date. Or, appear on the date in court listed on the ticket.
It doesn't mean you have to plead quilty and pay a fine just because the ticket requires a response.

Whoa, if you dont answer, or respond, to a ticket by its due date, you ARE GUILTY! Failure to appear. Prior to that due date, you are not guilty. The ticket will even state that your signature is not an admission of guilt but just an acknowledgement that you received it and that you know there is more action you need to take.
I posted not because I have outstanding tickets but because I was simply curious.
do you think the NY driver responsibility assessment of $100 per year for the next 3 years for drivers who have 6 or more violation points (11 or more and your license can be suspended) is fair or draconian? plus they tack on $25 per point over the 6 if you have more than 6
i got a ticket in 12/2011 worth 3 points which i eliminated by taking the DDC but they still are counted for the driver responsibility assessment. so if i got another ticket within 18 months carrying 3 points i would technically have 6 even tho i got rid of the other 3 points
do you think it's just $$ making for the state or it honestly is a motivator for people to drive safer?
