2004 Mitsu Lancer Sportback, bought new. Currently has 142K.

I am sometimes plagued by new-car-lust, but in reality, I enjoy my payment-free life. Would like to drive this car for as many more years as I can.

Picked up my 1988 Ford Taurus wagon new & kept it for 16 years. Picked up a new one in 2004 & I hope to keep it just as long as the first one. So far so good after 9 years.

Once you get used to no car payments, that tends to "cure" your lust for new cars. LOL I have to say the same for no house payments as well.

Year/Brand/Model?

1998 Ford F-150
220K

Will keep it until a brand new, completely redesigned Toyota Tacoma comes out (whenever that is),
OR if I like it, the brand new, complete redesigned Chevy Colorado (probably late 2014),
OR if my truck requires more than $1000 or so to repair (it's probably worth about 2000-3000 right now if that).

It's just a "get to work" truck right now and it runs great. But only 16MPG and no side air bags.

'91 F-250 Diesel - Currently just under 80K original miles. These engines are known to get 300K+ miles if taken care of, and I plan to test that. At less than 10K miles/yr, though, it may take a bit

'10 Flex EcoBoost - 28K miles. As long as it doesn't 'nickel and dime' me to death, it'll stay. Great family car that puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, which is a RARE combo these days.

'03 Suzuki SV1000 - 20K miles. Has been a mixed bag of 'super fun' and '**** me off' since I bought it a year ago. If it dies in the middle of one more trackday, it may find itself on CL real quick, but seems to be good lately *knock on wood*

'04 Accord - 75K miles. Wife's car. Could care less for the thing, but she likes it. So, whenever she gets bored of it.........

Growing up, my folks rarely held a car longer than 5 years, but my wife's folks drove them 'til the wheels fell off. Trying to adopt her family's financial philosophies, so we'll see how long these ones last. New cars sure are pretty, though......

Mike

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback (x2!). I'll keep them indefinitely. They're both paid for, attractively styled, decent on gas, safe enough (7 air bags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control). Reliable so far too - nothing but oil changes. They are also garaged so the weather doesn't have much of a chance to degrade their finish.
