Currently own 2003 Toyota Matrix. Bought with ~125,500 miles on odometer in 2008. Currently has ~214,300 miles. So, I average just under 18,000 miles per year driving, having driven it all over the U.S. The only significant replacements to be made so far have been the O2 sensor, head gasket cover and serpentine belt; clutch will probably have to be replaced in the next year or two, but it has been rough the whole time I've owned the car.
I'd like to keep it till at least 300,000 miles. That means if I continue to drive the car at my current rate, I'll have it for another almost five years.
My '88 Toyota Pickup is my daily driver and it has 110k right now. I plan on keeping it forever.
My '88 Honda Crx is my project and has 188k. Currently have it all torn apart. Plan to keep it forever.
My '06 VW has 100k. Plan (gf) to keep it for a long, undetermined amount of time. Wish my gf didn't like it. It is sht.
I have a 98 Cadillac DeVille and just bought another one to replace it and one that is wrecked with 51,000 on the odometer to use for the drivetrain and lots of spare parts. I tend to keep my cars for years and as long as they look cosmetically ok and run good I see no reason to buy a new one.
The last car payment I had was in 1986, and will never have one again if I can help it.
I wanted to get a new one but with the ridiculous prices of new cars I've decided to just keep my 10 year old vehicle for a few years longer, then I will probably buy a vehicle that gives me the best bang for the buck in terms of initial price, cost of maintenance and reliability etc.
I just gave my daughter my 2005 Saturn Vue. It has 160k and the only things beyond basic stuff was a gas cap and a cracked exhaust manifold. My 92 Saturn had 250k when I gave it to a friend so I am hoping the Vue goes that far.
I have a 2007 Hyundai Elantra which just crossed the 70,000 mile mark out here in Los Angeles, and have had no issues so far, except for replacing the battery at 48K miles and a front-end brake job at 64K miles, as well as four new tires.
I have no plans to get rid of it; I'm 6-3 and 235, and the interior room is ridiculously wonderful, and easily the best in its class.
I go through cars. I know some would cringe at how much it costs to do this, but I typically replace my primary car every 3-5 years. Mileage typically is between 30K and 60K on them (mostly dependent on whether I sell at 3, or keep it more towards 5).
I currently have a 2013 Charger as my daily car, so I will have it a few years.
I know it is not the cheapest way to car ownership, but I enjoy cars and I enjoy having something newer and different every few years.
