President Barack Obama's historic visit to Israel this morning had an embarrassing setback when his armored limo broke down on the way to the airport.

The custom General Motors Cadillac limo was relegated to a pick up truck after the driver accidentally put gas in the engine instead of diesel.

Mr Obama arrived in Tel Aviv Wednesday afternoon local time, and earlier that morning, the limo that was designated to his hotel was unable to move after the driver made the silly mistake.

Local news reports allege that it was the President's limo that was shipped over specially from Washington that broke down so he was forced to use the second vehicle that they brought over from the U.S.

I don't understand how this can happen to the President's limo. Is this not something the Secret Service would be in complete control of?

The United States Secret Service put out a statement about the incident, saying that it was a situation where it pays for them to be prepared.
'One of our protective vehicles experienced mechanical problems in Israel earlier today. This is why we bring multiple vehicles and a mechanic on all trips,' said Edwin Donovan, a spokesman for the Secret Service.
'Situations like this are planned for extensively by our advance teams so that the President's itinerary is unaffected by these types of issues.'
They did not confirm that whether or not the driver used gas or diesel, and if that was the cause of the malfunction.

Now that I did a search, I wonder if it is possible just a Cadillac malfunction (I had my share with my SRX) since other news state:

I also can't see how something like this can happen. Anyone that is authorized to fuel it has to know that it is diesel powered. I am sure that everyone that has contact with that vehicle goes through some kind of training.

Happens all the time to my Canadian 'diesel-driving' friends passing through OREGON, where the LAW REQUIRES the intelligence and skill of an attendant to fill your tank... Fortunately, us 'border-dwellers' know that the regulations ONLY apply to GAS cars, not diesel (it's not as EXPLOSIVE / DANGEROUS).

Hard to believe this would happen unintentionally in a FOREIGN country, where Diesel is far more prevalent than petrol (ick). Must have been a Cadillac expert staff mechanic from Detroit. Probably had never seen a Cadillac diesel, I can't recall ever seeing / working on one.

Obama should have been using cooking oil for fuel... much better results, especially for emissions and lubricity. And very available world wide!

WASHINGTON these days, is always intent on showing the world our ignorance. This is pretty par for their image, and probably the first time Obama ever rode in a TRUCK. (All USA Presidents should be required to have been in 4-H. At least they would have some Leadership EXPERIENCE, be accountable, and required to fill out a 'project-book' as well as a cash flow analysis. )

Im not sure if anyone knows IF it is or not. Ive never seen any official statement as to what the powerrain is. Just a lot of conjecture from what info is released regarding the modified chassis Kodiak etc..
