ALEXANDRIA, Va. - With a daily roundtrip commute of 120 miles, Marie Czapiewski needed good gas mileage in her new car but didn’t want to give up a V6 engine for something less powerful.
So when she bought another Honda Accord in September, Czapiewski was pleased to learn about a new feature that shuts off some cylinders in the engine when she’s cruising along Interstate 90 in southern Minnesota.

GM has displacement on demand as well. Remember the early 80's Caddys with the V 4-6-8 technology. G.M. could get the engine to transition between 4 and eight cylinders but had problems in 6 cylinder mode.
GM has been very successful with the V6 that switches between 4cylinder mode and 6cylinder mode.

Most Hondas' are made in the USA. I don't know anything about Toyotas'. We believe that our Honda vehicles have been an excellent use of our hard earned money in the vehicle department. No problems, no repair time or money outlay, great gas mileage, great vehicles for our purposes, comfortable, have held their value, safe, etc.

I was told by a Subaru dealer that the Toyota Camry line is built by Subaru in Indiana....(in addition to Subaru's...) The line seperating foreign from domestic is getting more obscure with time...
The quality of some domestic cars has risen sharply in the last 10 years or so...

but most of the folks here in san diego are not interesting in saving gas. they are more interested in makin noise an lookin fine.
its a cultural thing. kind of like the rifle and the pony back in the good ol days b4 the tribes made some brillant moves.
im tellin ya 4.00 bucks a gallon will not take them off the freeway or out of the hummve, they are in a rut.

That would be an incorrect statement. All Camry's are built in Kentucky along with Avalons, Solaras, as well as engine and powertrain parts. There is no joint venture between Subaru and Toyota. There is one between GM and Subaru.
The Subaru plant is in Lafayette, Ind. It was originally called the Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., and produced Subarus and Isuzu pick-ups to start. They are now called Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. This is where your Outback, Legacy, Tribeca and Baja come from (mostly). The rest of their plants (six) are in Japan with one in Taiwan.

Although a recent article stated that Toyota might have a ***** in its armor lately, it's far from from falling into "domestic disturbances".They currently employ over 50,000 workers in the U.S. at their many plants in the U.S. and I have never heard of workers being layed off or striking because of unsatifactory conditions.The "big 3" need to rethink their losing ways over the last 5 years.People are not so easy to spend their hard earned money on some unproven idea.Seems like they are always closing down a plant or laying off people.
As for this 8,6,4 cyl.thing,it's all in the advertising.Good for a sales pitch, but you could never estimate fuel economy.I would say that the lighter vehicles (cars not heavy trucks) might work , but with a truck or Suburban the power to weight ratio in 4 cyl.mode is only going to work on a flat hiway or going downhill .Any grade you encounter or constant passing you do will cancel out any fuel conservation you might gain.Driving habits will have alot to do with this , but if you bought a 4 door truck or Suburban and are the lone driver(like I see 75% of the time)then your 40k investment to get good fuel economy was well wasted.People that I see driving trucks are far from driving with the idea to save fuel.
Heck, y'all don't need no new-fangled technological-like things to save gas. All ya gotta do is put 'er in nuetral at the top of the hill and... Er, never mind; don't try this at home (OR in your car)
