I like to pay at the pump. I've been to Oregon and New Jersey and it's annoying not pumping your own gas. Thankfully I wasn't driving. When I do drive in those particular states. I'll be sure to have jerry cans of fuel and top off at the border of another state.

I live in NJ & I almost always pump my own gas.
Trust me--nobody has ever been arrested in NJ for pumping his own gas.
In fact, most of the attendants thank me for doing it myself.
The only times when I don't do the entire fill-up myself are when the pumps require that the attendant insert his card into the pump, prior to inserting my credit card. In those cases, I have already removed the gas cap before the attendant wanders over to my car, and I have made sure that the gas cap's lanyard is secured to the little hook on the gas door, in order to prevent the cap from hitting the fender.
Then, the attendant always walks away, leaving me to finish the job properly, without either overfilling the tank or spilling any gas. I take the receipt, wave it in the air to signal the attendant that I have finished the fill-up, and I drive away--while the other folks are still sitting in their cars, waiting for that lone attendant to get to their car.
Why do so many people act like sheep, and not take control of the situation?
Most likely because some people don't want to use (or can't qualify for) credit cards.
You know--the folks who "save money" by driving to the bank or the ATM several times during each pay period in order to draw out more cash. Then, once they have used up that cash, back to the bank/ATM they have to go.
Between the incredible amount of time that is wasted with those bank runs, and the extra gas used for those runs, I just don't see the sense of using cash to buy gas, groceries, and other frequent purchases. The only time that I use cash is at the car wash, or if I am buying a lottery ticket. As a result, my visits to the bank take place--at most--once a month.

Yes, I think this is it ^.
I think all stations should have a "outside pay only" lane that doesn't get blocked by these primitive cash payers.
How many of you still go inside the gas station to pay for your gas? Personally I hate going inside convenience stores, and I haven't in several years. It never fails, I always got stuck behind the smoker buying cigarettes, and it's the usual "oh I don't want those, I want the ultra lights 100's" blah blah, then the clerk has to find them. . To make it worse, these people leave their vehicles parked at the gas pump while theyre inside for 10 minutes. It drives me crazy!
If the pay at pump feature isn't working, I'll get back in my car and drive to the next station before I'll go inside. I know the store owners hate people like me because they make their money off of overpriced snacks, drinks, and cigarettes.
Some filling stations do a weird thing where the charge that shows up on your credit card is several times what you paid for your gas. The bank explained it to me--it's only temporary, and when the charge processes, the real amount shows. But in the meantime, your credit card is suddenly tied up for $90 even if you only bought $30 worth of gas. So at certain stations, I pay cash inside. I don't want them messing with my card.
When you commit a crime, posting it on the internet is often not the wisest thing to do. Criminals often get caught because they just cannot help telling other people about their crime. Successful thieves steal their gas and other things quietly, the y do not post it on internet sites. Not to mention the gas station owner you stole from my see the post and come for revenge
