rant

Today on the way home, while in the middle lane doing about 70 I noticed a Chevy Venture van going fairly slowly in the left lane. I moved into the right lane and hung back for several miles as the usual sudden braking and passing on the right occured while faster drivers went around it. The van driver was apparently oblivious to all the people passing on her right. The van was also wobbling back and forth and intermittently drifting into the middle lane.

Yes, the driver was texting. The entire time, she was driving with her phone propped on the steering wheel, texting away.

After about five miles, I passed her on the right. Still texting, still oblivious.

A few miles later, I got in the right lane to exit and was slowed by a truck, so she passed me. Still in the left lane, still gently swerving from side to side at about 65 mph, still with with the phone up on the steering wheel.

For the love of all that is holy, if you absolutely must text while aiming a 5,000 lb piece of high-speed metal down the freeway, couldja please do it in the farking right lane, at least?

I'm not usually one to rant about texting while driving but today I encountered three egregious examples of it (one started to cross into my path on a two-lane country road and swerved back abruptly as I started to drive onto the shoulder) and Ms Chevy Venture was the last one.

Oh. And did I mention she had a small child in the front passenger seat?
So apparently she is breeding, too.

/rant.

If you are going to text while driving don't let me catch you're doing it. I'll turn your azz in to the police demanding that you receive a hefty ticket for your stupidity.

Another "others drive like morons" thread?
How about a school bus on FWY in TN, going 75, with driver doing makeup with one hand and holding Big Mac in the other and steering with her knees? Texting is nothing comparing to that.

The right lane could be just as bad. I drive a gas tanker. What if I was getting on the hyway and she, still texting and clueless drives under the tank? The would get ugly real quick. I wish people would just drive and go park if they must text.

Doing make up and holding a big mac? What's the point of doing her face. When she gets the " special sauce" all over her face she will have to it all over again.

Do you really think the person stupid enough to text while driving is going to think about which lane they are driving in while they do it? It has already been established they are pretty stupid.

And the thing is these nit-wits will do it again, no telling if luck with be with them or not next time. I don't know how aggressive the cops are around there with this stuff, but if you got a license number, a school bus number, I'd be contacting the cops and the bus company. Maybe they will get caught the next time. Scary as hell with children aboard. Its too bad you didn't get a video of it. I think all cars should have dash cams, be so handy in cases like this.

I run a dash cam in my car and truck. With the angle, you can't see in the cars.

These people are just plain stupid. I usually give them a swift honk as I pass.

I thought of that, but sadly this was in a part of the county where you're lucky to get nailed for murder if you're dragging a dead body down the road tied to your bumper with a piece of rope all day, let alone driving like just another garden-variety farking idiot. Around here it's common to get put on hold for a 911 call.

I just needed a fast rant because today was a day rife with idiots, but seriously. Wandering blindly around in the left lane of the freeway, texting incessantly, with a child in the passenger seat? Made me wish I had a ray-gun that would instantly sterilize the driver at the very least.
