Anyone ever have something hit your car while driving?
Was driving to work at 70mph and something just plowed into my driver side door. It literally came out of nowhere. The door is smashed and two huge 2 foot long gashes are on the door. Paint chipped off everywhere. Two cars ahead pulled over and I walked to them. They had no clue what it was either. One lady's car was fine the other had 2 blown out tires. It honestly felt like a brick hit me at 70mph. Another 18 inches up and it would have probably gone through the window and knocked me the hell out if not worse. Noone else pulled over so we were pretty much screwed. I just have state minimum insurance. Older car with a lot of miles. Will probably have to go to a junk yard and get a door. Just glad it didn't physically hurt me.
Back in 2004 when I got my Mustang brand new, 3 days off the lot, a large concrete rock about the size of a baseball fell off the back of a construction truck that was two lanes over to the right and a truck following in back of it ran over it and it shot out diagonally backwards right at me. Fortunately it only hit my front right tire and shredded it. Like you I was lucky didn't come through the windshield.

I was driving to work one morning when something was dropped from the freeway overpass above, and hit the windshield right in front of me. Luckily it only shattered, and didn't come in, but it's hard to keep under control and pull over when that happens. I did manage, but had to get a tow due to no visibility. The police were not able to solve it but thought it was a dangerous prank.
I've been hit by the remains of a truck tire at 70+ mph out on the highway. Driving down the road and it hit the right side of the car - took the paint straight off the bumper down to plastic, no damage to the rest of the car thankfully...it wound up going under the car, so I got lucky. My last 2 Jeeps have had skid plates, I've had too much road debris bang around under my cars from construction, etc. More than once I've driven through a construction zone and heard god knows what slam into the plates.

I was heading home from work on I-264 in Louisville one time and I was behind a pickup truck and out of nowhere a rock the size of my fist came from the truck and hit my windshield hard. To this day I am flabbergasted that it did not even put a scratch on my windshield. I had the windshield replaced a few months before that happened because of a crack on the old windshield. I'm just glad it did not hit the old one.
Yeah, the driver ahead of me ran over something in the road. That object went up in the air, bounced off my windshield onto the back of my right side mirror and shattered the glass in front.
I watched the large dual wheels off a large tractor trailer rig detach at 60mph, bounce across the median and nail a car coming in the opposite the direction right in the hood. We called 911 and both occupants of the car were taken away in an ambulance. The car appeared to be totaled but the people were alive.
