When I buy my next car, I will give preference to a car with the gas tank on the passenger's side since it would be easier to pump gas in my car without having to wait. I noticed today a Volkswagen with a passenger's tank. Everyone else was driver's side.
If you are one of the "lucky ones" with a tank on the passenger's side, what kind of car do you drive?
All the gas stations I go to have pumps on both sides. Or you can pull in in either direction.
Yeh, our gas stations have pumps on both sides and you simply pull in so that you're on the "appropriate" side.
I have two Jettas, and both have tanks on the passenger side...it was a big adjustment for me, since my previous car had the filler neck on the driver side, which I preferred for pulling into the gas station...It was typically easier to gauge my distance from the pumps from the driver's side of the car, as opposed to the far side. It only took a little bit of time to adjust, and it's really a non-issue now...what was fun, was the first time i had to fill up at diesel at the trucker's gas pumps...that was a mess, and very complicated (for my non-diesel mind)

Why would you have to "wait"? Just pull in, or back in, from whatever direction is convenient. Gas station pumps don't discriminate and you can fuel from either side so I don't get why this matters.
Dumb poll so I am not answering it but I have two of one and one of the other. Imports are more likely to have gas tanks on the passenger side, at least older ones. Maybe they've changed that for US sales for American drivers who can't figure out how to pull up to gas pumps.
All of this started when cars began coming from Japan.(They have right hand steering in Japan.) Before that the gas filler were always on the drivers side, or in the rear behind the license plate.
I said right because I own a 1988 Chevy K5 Blazer 4x4 Diesel that has a right side filler. I have no clue as to why, but it sure is a pain in the rump.
UPDATE: Early VW Beetle's excluded.
UPDATE 2: I was reading another thread about this. I didn't realize that so many cars had rightside filler doors. So the made in Japan thing may not be true.
Yep 03 Nissan Frontier, tank on passenger side, u talk bout screwed up in a hurricane evacuation,not good. The truck is small enough if u park close enough to the pump, the nozzle will just make it lol
My Chevy Cruze has it on the passenger side, but my 1973 Mustang has it on the back.... Therefore doesn't matter which side of the pump I pull up to.

Therefore doesn't matter which side of the pump I pull up to.
