You mean 10k for a brand new Versa with M/T?

Not being inclined towards car repair, I will shy away from volkswagens. Especially as I would like something for road trips when I am away from a known mechanic. Some of my road trips take me to the boonies. - literally Deliverance country.

Otherwise I would consider the Jetta wagon.

You got it. I have seen that at several Chicagoland Nissan dealerships over the last 12 month. Weather it is available today, I don't know. A MT is not something I have an interest in.

I've contacted my local dealer and they didn't give me a reasonable price for Versa with MT. I love MT!

I am seriously thinking about going to Chicago to buy a 10k Nissan Versa!

Make sure that you have a deal before you leave and that the dealership has the inventory. Not every dealership likes to carry a lot of MT cars.

Keep in mind you get what you pay for. All the sub-compacts , Aveo, Fiesta , Sonic etc give up a lot to be a sub compact. Smaller suspension components, smaller brakes, smaller wheels and tires, cheaper components in the interior etc. In my opinion they are disposable cars. To each their own though.
I'd rather put the $10k down , finance for a year or two and get a much better vehicle.

Thanks.

The other car I'm seriously considering is Mazda 3 MT. It seems that some Mazda dealers don't even have any Mazda 3 MT at all.

I don't really understand why people don't drive MT anymore.

Do they still offer Focus for $9995?

Rentals in the last month have been Focus, Versa, Mazda 3, Yaris, Elantra; all of which I have had numerous times in the last 5 yrs. Probably 3-5K in each.

Tho a VW TDI driver myself, I am most impressed and happy with the Focus (Economy, handling, visibility, reliability, ease / comfort of driving.) I do really love those 'split field' Side rear view mirrors with the Convex in the corners. Never have got a MT in a USA rental, but do get them overseas. (and that is all I would want for my driving style / needs / economy... Mountains and switchbacks everyday).

My least favorite is the Versa, second favorite is the Mazda 3 (they can be very fun, but a bit weird feel to a VW driver).

The Yaris I turned in this AM was FAR worse than the ones I have had before. After 3,000 miles I have finally got up to 34.8MPG. but it fell on it's face in city and high speed (83mph) interstate driving.

Last week, Elantra was able to sustain 38+mpg at 83 MPH (14 hrs)
