I'm surprised they offered to pay anything on a 9 year old car. The cracks are likely just a cosmetic issue, and won't affect the airbags at all.
I concur, if I was the manufacturer, I'd tell you to go pound sand. The 80k mileage has nothing to do with this. It's still a 9 year old car. You can hardly expect to buy a brand new car with 16 miles on it, park it in the driveway and expect it to last forever now can you.
Regardless of how you baby a car, time takes it's toll on every part of it. At 100,000 miles the car owes you nothing at this point. The car maker was being extremely generous in offering you anything on a car that old. Take the money and thank them on the way out the door, they went above and beyond what most would have done.
The Mazda RX7s in the 1980s had dashes that essentially dissolved in sunlight. They were true vampire cars, as long as you kept them out of the light, they lived forever.
Claims !!!! .. that too for a 9 year old car doesn't make any sense. Good that your wife is finally happy about the 700k. Otherwise you would have ended up spending even more on some business lawyer.
I purchased a new 2013 vehicle and with only 2000 miles on the odometer I noticed the panels were fading on the doors, steering wheel, and some fabric fading. The manufacturer refused to pay for parts or replace the panels. I filed with the National Center for Dispute Settlement and the arbitrators ruled in favor of the manufacturer because the said the safety and use of the vehicle was not impaired. However, I advised the value of the vehicle was impaired in case of sell or trade in. The Decision Board also said that my vehicle had more than 18,000 miles on it, when in fact in only had 2000 miles on it when it was taken to their service department. The vehicle now only has 4,400 miles on it. I refused to accept their decision and am considering to file a claim in small claims court. If I lose the case, am I liable for any expense? The panel made a decision of incorrect information concerning the mileage on the vehicle. All work orders indicated the low mileage of less than 4,000 miles.
I had a Mercury Cougar and one night something fell off the car and put a big hole in the gas tank. When I looked under it the next day I found that the large weight they put on the tailshaft of the transmission, to dampen out vibrations, had fallen off. The bracket had sheared cleanly off.
I found out Mercury had a problem with that and had issued a recall (which I never received) and they had extended the warranty to 50,000 miles. My car had 50,300 miles on it and they refused to fix it, so I threatened to sue them. The rep from Ford said "Go ahead, we have lots of Attorneys just sitting around waiting to defend us." So I bought myself a new gas tank and fixed it myself, but I have never bought another new Ford product since.
They will outmoney you in court, so I suggest you just let it alone.
