Yes, like I said in my first post. Have a contest that relates to the school subjects but is useful in the real world. Best HP for smallest $$$. Most efficient engine w/highest HP.
I would LOVE to do that, but there are two problems, a dissembled dyno, and simple minded rednecks. The rednecks would prefer simple minded categories, I'll try to avoid that. Even worse is that no one knows how to assemble or calibrate the dyno.
How are these judged? If an SPL meter is being used, the lower frequency range is more important, because lower notes create more Sound Pressure. A shrill 4 banger will not be louder than a rumbling V8, regardless of how it is perceived by the human ear.
Maybe, but the rotary will push the sound meter farther than either a V8 or a 4. Theyre always the first the get booted at tracks that have stricter sound restrictions.
After living on a racetrack for most of my life I have noticed that big block Chryslers as being louder than most everything else. Now, if you said irratating I'm sure it would be a Honda.

I have been to competitions where the'Simple-minded-rednecks' show up with their $2000 Dodge Cummins with twin turbos off Bubba's Peterbilt that registered 800hp and 1200 ft lbs of torque BEFORE it broke the tie-down straps on the Dyno.

And you consider yourself "above" the simple minded? I have a 2000 hp dyno and yes, I know how to assemble and calibrate it. Oh btw it is better to have simple easy to understand categories, unless you want a lot of fights when winners are being picked. Unless someone shows up with a Top Fuel engine, your winner will have a big V8.
