I used to fill up my truck every other day when I used it to commute. On my motorcycle it's an everyday fill up but I'm paying less.

I usually consume 15-20 gallons per week. I also run my tanks to below a gallon and then fill completely, I don't like spending time at the gas station. Never understood the people who chronically get a few gallons here and there. They must think they save time with small fill-ups but don't factor in multiple trips.

Eight to ten gallons per fill-up will last me seven days.

With the three cars I own, about once every 2-3 weeks. But I only put in $20 to $25 worth of fuel.

My job is only a five mile round trip for me and I usually only work five days a week. Even at 12 mpg, with a 21 gallon tank, I can go 240 miles on 20 of those with a reserve. I am also a homebody who does not hardly go anywhere when I get home. So I can drive my 79 T-Bird for 8 weeks (two months) between fill-ups. And 79 Duster, are you saying if your car quits, you won't try to fix it? Just let the junk yard have it? Shame on you.

In the 2011 Altima I used to have, I would fill up once every two weeks. That's under a 40 mile round-trip commute to work. Rarely went anywhere else. But then I would drive until the car was near empty, so as to avoid the physical pain I would encounter at seeing it ring up at nearly $80.

In my 2013 Fusion Hybrid, I fill up once a week, same commute distance. But that's with half a tank remaining, and mostly because of the sheer glee I get at seeing it struggle to ring up to $20.

So rather than $160 in a month minimum, I pay $80 a month maximum, even though I make more trips. I can live with that.

How? I assume you mean how do we get by with filling tanks so infrequently? I may have even overestimated how often we get gas. I know since the middle of December we have put less than 2k miles on the Mustang. We actually try to make a conscious effort to make sure it gets out for a "decent" drive once in a while. The Escape gets more miles. I did the math and the current mileage on it comes out to about 600 miles/month average (that includes some longer trips that we've taken, so it's usually less). My wife works less than a mile from home and I drive 1.5 miles. We had the Mustang before we moved close to work a little over 4 years ago. It's paid for, so we keep it. Most other driving we do is 15 minutes or less (grocery store, taking son to sports practices/games, etc.). We both teach, so the amount of driving drops even more in the summer.
