Hello,

I have moved in to Texas and need to register my car. It appears that I need to complete the inspection, before I register. Following is the criteria that needs to be passed.
Texas Department of Public Safety - Inspection Criteria for the Annual SAFETY Inspection

My right turn signal in the front is not working. It is not due to bulbs but due to the wiring, that an auto mechanic could not be able to fix when I took it to him earlier in my previous state. Turn signal in the rear is working.

Please advice if I would be able pass the inspection in this condition. If it is not possible, please advice how I can fix this.

Thanks!

Will not pass legally. Signals need to function in order to pass. There shouldnt be that many wires to trace, should be an easy fix for any competent mechanic.

When the inspector says "try your turn signals", crank down the window and do this:

http://www.dmv.ny.gov/dmanual/handsig.gif

You will be in compliance with the state turn signal law. At least, in New York, according to the current road test manual: "The law requires you to signal a turn or lane change with your directional lights or hand signals at least 100 feet (30 m) ahead."

Would not fly in Texas. This is a vehicle "safety" test and all the lights have to work. In Texas you get out of your car, and the inspector checks to make sure they work.

Just curious, Spalam . . .

Who would want to own and/or drive a vehicle without ALL of the safety equipment functioning properly?

I think you can get an external flasher assembly and mount it on your car and wire it into the electrical harness, like you would do for a trailer. I believe that would satisfy the legal requirement, as long as it is mounted securely. That would be one way to go if the cost of a proper repair is prohibitive.

can you get a waiver from your state showing that you made efforts to repair and that it didn't work in some cases they will give you a waiver to pass inspection

Thanks all for the reply. Got the front turn signal light fixed. It was more to do with the contact rather than bulb.

Also passed the state inspection as well.
