I've finally had the wrecker cart off the 88 Fleetwood, my 3rd Caddy since I was 22. I grew up on GM and the smallest car I ever drove, including my parents was a 1985 Eldorado and I found it way too small. I'm mad at myself, should have worked harder to keep up the Fleetwood since it got so much better mileage than my grand caravan. But it's time to replace it. I am looking for a 2000 or newer passenger car, US made, preferably not Ford vehicle with at least a 5 litre, rear wheel drive and can easily seat 6, what's out there that's good these days.

Eric

Honestly your best bet is the Lincoln Town Car. It's one of the few cars that can easily seat six, and is the most comfortable of your options from 2000 and onward.

You're looking at a Crown Vic. If the police depts all across the country couldn't kill one, they are pretty much bulletproof. And they get great gas mileage too. I'd suggest driving one before counting a Crown out.

There's no such thing that wasn't made by Ford I don't think. The Fords (Crown Vic, Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car) go right up to model year 2010-2011 so they had fairly modern equipment in those late years. All the GMs were front drive. The rear-drive Chryslers that came about more recently never seated 6; they're comparatively small inside.

You gain more choices if you give up even just one of those things, be it rear drive, the engine size, or the 6th seat. Or the age, you'd have to go much older.

The 6th person is never comfortable anyway. So give up on the 6th seat and look for a Pontiac G8.

A late model 5.7 Hemi Dodge Charger should be decent or a late model Crown Vic/Town car.

Heck if you want big and new and luxurious a fully loaded top of the line late model F-150, Chevy 1500, Ram 1500, Yukon, Suburban, Expedition, Late model Gasser Ford Excursion.

i know that you say you dont want a ford, but the crown vic, grand marquis, and lincoln towncar are the only cars that fit your parameters, and they are hard to kill. you might be able to find a decent caprice classic in the 99 and older model year range though if you want to stick with gm.

Beyond not wanting a Ford, with Ford being the only one making such a car since 2000, thanks to pie-in-the-sky MPG requirements, next time you come around wanting such a beast "newer than 2015" or whatever, the answer will be really easy - no such exist.

Ford has got better, and GM has got worse, since the late 80's.

What are police and highway patrol going to use now that there are no more full sized standard sedans?
