LA is a great choice. You've got Willow Springs, the oldest dedicated road course in America. You've got Buttonwillow & Chuckwalla not far. Of course, Fontana (Auto Club Speedway). You've got the best hot rod scene in the world. Tons of car stuff involved with the Hollywood scene. Basically anything good car wise, starts in SoCal.
LA has an incredibly vibrant art scene of course. Music, theater, you name it... Great beaches. Great local mountains, deserts, everything... No other locale in the country, simply no other offers the variety that LA does.
LA isn't for ******* though. Lot's of competition, but lot's of opportunity. The traffic really isn't any worse than any other large city, and you soon learn how to get around at the right times or avoid the slow spots. Super easy airport to travel from.
All in all, LA would fill all your squares, and offer huge opportunity to a person into cars / motorsport.
Let ma add: there is no car season, racing season, etc. in SoCal. We race, play with cars, drive our bikes and roadsters YEAR ROUND. There is no reason to park the fun stuff because of snow on the ground, monsoon season, too cold, too hot, etc.
