My thoughts and prayers are with you, rlrl, but the sad reality is that some people who never smoked do get lung cancer.

In many of those cases of non-smokers with lung cancer, Radon gas in their home is the probable cause. For the benefit of other family members who live in the house, I urge you to get a radon test done, and--if it indicates a radon problem--to have it remediated.

Good luck with the treatment!

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis- I hope everything goes OK.

Here is my way of coping with the claustrophobia of MRIs (of which I have had several)

- take a small dose of Xanax ahead of time if possible- that will take the edge off

- before you go in the tube, close your eyes (some places will put a small eye pillow over your eyes, or maybe you can bring one yourself) - and then make sure you do not open them at all until you are out of the tube.

- while your eyes are closed in the tube, visualize yourself on a beach in the tropics, or anywhere that makes you feel relaxed- really concentrate on it, make it as vivid as possible

- also make sure you keep your breathing relaxed, just take slow, deep breaths (without moving of course)

When I have done the above, I can get through the entire MRI without even a twinge of panic.

Likely not going to be a problem. It's more of case when you own a house as Rn gets released because of breakdown of natural Uranium in soil rocks etc. Concentration is higher in basement. We have radon mitigation system installed. See more here

tough way to go, and while i dont have lung cancer, or any cancer of any kind, i do have end stage kidney disease and i am on dialysis, so i understand what you are going through. the key as indicated before is to stay positive, and dont let things get to you.

as to where the cancer came from, there are a lot of ways to get lung cancer without smoking, second hand smoke, asbestos, fiberglass particles, carbon fiber particles, if you work in the chemical industry, or gas industry, etc. and yes radon can also cause lung cancer.

like alpha said its not likely to be an issue, but one never knows. if there have been issues of radon gas in your area it wont hurt to check it out, of have the landlord check it out.

^^^Yes definitely check this. Will be even more crucial if your apt is in basement or half underground or something like that. And Rn can change with time. If Rn was not present in past it does not mean it cannot be the case now.
