Those cars were my favorite period in car racing. a '69-70 Porsche 917 is a work of art.

I saw Paul Newman actually racing these cars called "BRE" Datsuns at a racetrack in Ohio in 1972.
In a lesser class, he was thrashing a full race mini-cooper in the pouring rain. It looked like a dog peeing on a fire hydrant the way it lifted its inside wheel, ha ha ha -----That was racing !!!

Bullitt (1986). Steve Mcqueen, Robert Vaughn, Jacqueline Bisset. Mustang going full bore up and down the streets of san francisco. What's not to like? You know when the bad guy puts his seat belt on it reminds me of when Mel Gibson puts the black mouthpiece in his mouth in Payback just before crashing head-on with the Chinese couriers they're going to rob.
Again, Steve McQueen---Too cool for words! Even the Charger gangster was cool as a cucumber!
When I was a little kid, a saw this movie called "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry" about some petty thieves in a another Charger . . . It had Peter Fonda and even had an Easy Rider'ish feel about it. Aside from having a schoolboy crush on Susan George, I was sooooo sad at the ending.
American Graffiti (1973)
Smokey and the Bandit (1977)
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (1974)
Vanishing Point (1970)
Duel (1971)
Christine (1983)
Bullitt (1968)
Catch Me If You Can (1989)
In the first Lord of the Rings movie, there was a scene in which an elf princess was being chased, all on horseback. The director said it was planned as if it were a massive car chase. Before I heard this bit of info on the behind the scenes part of the DVD, I remarked it was like a great car chase, but on horses.
All time favorites are Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Disney Love Bug.
I must be responsible for a resurgence of the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang because I gave a copy to my nieces and now all their friends have it too.
