The other day I was driving to dinner and stopped at a traffic light. The next thing I know, the man in the car next to me was checking out my car. LOL! He was asking me all kinds of questions about my Ford Focus Hatchback. I was cracking up, as although it is a sharp looking car, it is still a totally basic car.

Have you been checked out for your car? What do you drive?

Checked out, Jade? . . . frequently.

Yes, I often build cars that becomne conversation starters. Sometimes they are cheap fun cars like my '62 Falcon:

Sometimes they are race cars, sometimes customs. Funny thing, I got asked out by a number of women when I drove this:

Including one young woman who came up next to me on the interstate and asked me to dinner.

Lately my Volt has been starting a lot of conversations with people wanting to learn more about how it works. I have no problem talking cars with people.

Having a nice car, it comes with the territory, people are going to ask you about it.

Best car I ever had for getting attention was a Napier Blue (almost a Teal color, but more blue) Stealth twin turbo, modified and upgraded. Custom hood, custom wheels, etc. They stopped making the Stealth in early 96 and hardly made any the last year, so by 2000, it was already becoming rare to see the turbo version. Every time I took that car out I got compliments, or simply people wondering what it was, thinking it was a Ferrari or some foreign sports car they'd never seen. Paint still looked brand new since it spent most of the time under a cover in the garage, so most people were fooled into thinking it was a newer car.

Yeah, i enjoy it but don't thrive on it.

I've had various Mustangs over the years and got attention in those.

My newest car is a 2012 Mercedes and that gets it's share of looks.

I'd never actually pursue a date or anything due to a car. That's really not the kind of girl I'm after. I have a nice car because I like spending my money on ME, not you.

Ah, when youre single and a car guy, and never got that sort of attention when in school, then it's kind of fun to be asked out, even if it's due to the car. And often I met cute girls wheo were into cars that way, which was nice. I preferred women who were into cars, as that meant they wouldn't complain about my hobby (so many women do that).

Although it wasn't mine, I got the most attention in the late 80's driving a Ferrari 308 GTSi (Magnum PI car). I was a kid washing cars and got to take them home (5-6 miles) and that Ferrari was always a conversation starter!

I was always a bit nervous with the car, it was owned by a Capo in a NY crime family. It was a rumor back then but once the internet became available the car's owner was a confirmed member. I'm glad I never scratched that car!

Well if you put it that way, i guess I prefer that as well. That way I can justify spending $1400 on Aluminum heads and not get flak for it.
