I live close to the border of New Jersey in Pennsylvania near Allentown.

We're 90 miles west of NYC.

Earlier this year we had a road rage incident on I-78 where a woman cut off a guy in some moderate traffic
The man became very angry, caught up to the woman and began shooting out her windows with a 9MM handgun in an attempt to kill her.

He didn't succeed but he emptied two magazines worth of bullets into her car.

You don't see many people being confrontational with other drivers here due to well publicized incidents in this area like the one I just spoke about.

If that woman you mentioned happened to stumble across the wrong person she could easily wind up dead at the next traffic light or stop sign.

Dear little car driver

Changing lanes and cutting me off without bothering to see that I am in your blind spot or even using your blinker is very dangerous for your health. You see I am in a Chevy Surburban. My vehicle would no doubt destroy yours without missing a beat. This also applies to you if you decide to tailgate me and I have to brake suddenly. Your little Honda/Toyota whatever little Asian import rice rocket is made of much lighter material and would therefore be not match for my heavy duty tow bar or bumper.

Dear loud pipe motorcycle guy

O.k. we get it. You didn't receive enough attention as a child so you decided as an "adult" to modify your motorcycle exhaust pipes so that they are dangerously loud when you drive down the street. I'm sure you neighbors must love you.

Dear monster truck guy

Have you not heard the popular theory about guys compensating? Guess not!

I could go on and on....

As others have said, bad behavior behind the wheel is something that is distributed through every age group, every race, and both genders. And, I am beginning to believe that holiday weekend driving seems to bring out the worst in many people.

Yesterday, in a round-trip drive of ~140 miles, I witnessed more bad driving behavior than I think I ever did on one day. Just a sampling:

>The driver (male, black, apparently in his 40s), driving a late model Camaro with a loud exhaust, who decided to pass several cars by veering onto the shoulder of the expressway, despite the fact that the heavy traffic was moving at 65-70 mph. He then proceeded to cut off the folks in the right, middle, and left lanes, in order to get into the left lane--where he then drove only slightly faster than everyone else.

>The driver in the Chevy Suburban (female, white, apparently in her early 30s, with Maryland plates) driving in the center lane, who seemed to have been offended that I passed her on the right on I-287. I'm sorry, but...it IS legal to pass on the right on multi-lane highways, and the MV code does state that you shouldn't be in the middle or left lanes unless you are passing somebody. She was driving slower than the traffic in both the left and right lanes, and as a result, was being passed by people on both her left and her right. Shortly after I passed her, she suddenly goosed her accelerator, passed me, and proceeded to cut me off as she veered into the right lane.

>The driver of the Volvo XC-70 with bikes on the roof (male, white, apparently in his 40s) who seemingly became so confused by having to enter a parking garage that he...stopped dead before entering...then inched forward at a snail's pace while a line of traffic grew behind him...then stopped dead again in the exact center of the two-lane up-ramp, thus forcing other traffic to go around him on that narrow two-way ramp. I had a close call with somebody coming down the ramp, as did a few people behind me.

>The driver of a mini-van (female, Asian, probably in her 50s) who was driving no more than 2 car lengths behind another vehicle, at ~65 mph, in the center lane, despite the fact that there was very light traffic on the road. I came upon this strange scene on an almost deserted stretch of expressway, and immediately wondered...Why she would choose to tailgate that other vehicle so closely when she could have...dropped back a bit, or moved to the right lane, or passed that other car by moving to the left lane.

How can one explain these acts with any logic?

I see this so often. Only 2 cars will be in the lane and one is tailgating the other.

Truthfully, I blame the driver in front, just as much as I blame the moron who is tailgating.
If somebody is riding my back bumper, I will accelerate briskly in order to put a lot of space between me and the tailgater. If they start tailgating again, I will repeat my evasive actions.

Bear in mind that I get out of the passing lane as soon as I have safely passed another vehicle, so this scenario doesn't apply to the left lane. I am talking about morons who insist on tailgating another vehicle in the right or center lanes when they would be able to move to the left in order to pass, rather than tailgate.

Defensive driving involves doing as much as possible to mitigate the dangerous driving behaviors of other drivers, and because of that reality, I blame the driver of the car in front, just as much as I blame the tailgater.

A couple years ago I was dumbfounded to see a lady (I think in her 40s?) in a newer Dodge Ram truck, putting on make-up, smoking a cigarette, and talking on her cell phone as she was driving. What was most surprising is that she was actually doing a pretty good job of driving. Must have a lot of practice.

Here in lower Delaware many of our roads are 2 lane roads with often double yellow center line for miles. I rarely get out on a 4 lane road.

If you've had one child, I am pretty certain that you know exactly what caused that and how to prevent more of them so that you will never be caught in the above-mentioned most unfortunate situation.

I tried that one night. Got up to 74MPH before the jerk who was tailgating me turned on the lights revealing that it was a state trooper. She gave me a speeding ticket. Took it to court where the judge said that he'd give me PBJ or find me guilty and I could appeal. I took the guilty verdict, appealed, trooper didn't show up for the appeal, so I was found not guilty and got my fine and court costs refunded.
