First, I drive a lot so I have some serious personal statistics behind my thread, it's spread over many years. There is something going on with aging white males that affects their driving. For example, I-35 from Dallas to San Antonio is a challenging to drive because of high traffic volume, endless construction and small (but critical) number of drivers who don't give a dime. They are slow, they are slow in the middle lane, they drive slow next to each other thus creating serious slow downs (or even jams), they pass slow regardless of big picture ahead of them (they obviously don't care to see), they don't let slower trucks to change lanes, then trucks hit the brakes and eventually change lanes at much slower speed thus causing serious slow downs, apparently they forgot how to merge properly, in short many drive like zombies having some serious stuff on their minds.
It annoyed me to the point when I pay attention to the drivers who do all the above. Since I-35 corridor has its share of the illegal first-time drivers straight from Mexico, one could expect them to be a problem, most clunker drivers are OK most of the times though, at least they stick to the right lane. There are a few "millennial" yuppies around Austin area who apparently never driven a car before getting a job and who are scared to drive. But white aging males driving mid to upper class cars absolutely perplex me. Why them?
Wow. whata rant! So it's the white old guys responsibility that the truck driver waited until the last minute to change lanes. Considering how well Texas hiways are marked and marked again, there's no excuse for the truck driver who usually is a young guy that couldn't get a job at anything else, can't read and plan ahe a d. While most won't know, the I 35 Corridor is a posted 75mph in most places. Traffic is usually 80-85mph and is loaded with dimwits wanting to go faster, tailgate, and will weave in and out of traffic like they think it's a NASCAR race. Maybe the old white guy just doesn't want to break the law and drives the speed LIMIT. Might try it sometime. You'll get there just as quick.
Doesn't affect their insurance rates too much. That demographic is one of the safest, least accident prone group of drivers around.
Creating a traffic jam out of nothing is much safer for the people who create jams. Their rates would shot up if insurance companies could measure indirect risks. It's not just about speed and courtesy. I just look at their faces and I see "suspended state of being", but apparently driving slow in the middle lane makes up for not paying attention (and not giving a dime).

First, most truck drivers are white middle aged males themselves, many are career drivers (from rural areas having no other decent jobs), many are forced into trucking after a job/career loss, many are college educated. Trucking is brutal as far as having a life goes, young males do everything to avoid it. So please, save your attitude for the next MENSA or country club meeting you'll be invited to.
It doesn't occur to you that accidents, cops on the shoulder, slow moving vehicles, debris on the road, bums on a stroll, etc., etc., etc. can force cars and trucks to change lanes. Of course it doesn't, in your world turning a zombie state on and driving at 65 mph next to 64mph truck (or 64.5 mph car driven by another guy in a suspended state of being) is a pinnacle of safety. You are not responsible for seeing a big picture ahead of you and adjusting your driving accordingly? As far as 80-85mph traffic, especially in Austin-San Antonio area, you are kidding right?

I assume you're being facetious, as a response to the "what's wrong with teen male drivers" thread.
That said, drivers in "my demographic" - the "50-60ish white male drivers" - are statistically the safest drivers around. I'm also very, very conscious of driving in the right lane if anybody is behind me.
On the other hand, I'll openly admit that my eyesight and reaction time are not what they used to be. I would imagine that, 20 years from now, I'll need to cut down on my driving.

Mid 60's white retired guy here. I drive slow BUT I stay in the right lane. If trucks can't pass me then I will speed up for the trucks. If I do get into the middle lane to pass someone I punch the gas peddle so passing gear kicks in. Driving real slow in the middle lane is stupid and dangerous.
