when i got into my car the temp read 88 degrees. after i shopped and came back to the car it read 84 degrees. i had the AC on while driving

does the thermometer reading measure the inside of the car, the outside of the car, or just the outside temp? did use of the AC (for no more than 20 mins) affect that reading?

Likely the outside temp. That is what is common anyway.

What type of car?

After sitting in the sun the temp rises, and when you drive it the wind cools it a bit. Your inside may or may not be thermostatically controlled dependent on model.

Outside. There will always be a fluctuation of a few degrees. Many variables.

On my Acura, it reads the outside temperature and the sensor is in the front bumper.

another question. i just ordered a replacement registration from my DMV because the lettering on the original one was getting rubbed out from being under a plastic holder in the glove box in the sun

could presenting a registration with some of the lettering (really just the VIN #) rubbed out lead to a ticket?

since my premiums dropped 50% for being a safe driver I don't want any tickets or problems. i used to pay almost $2400 per year now it's half, actually less than it cost to insure my 92 Tercel

It may vary by state and I could wrong but my understanding is that insurance only looks at tickets with points... mainly moving violations. I would doubt a ticket regarding registration cards would have any toll on your insurance premiums.

you're right its actually not a moving violation here in NY. anyway the cop checks registration status via computer regardless of what the paper documents actually say...

If I park mine on a hot asphalt parking lot it's not uncommon to see it read as high as 105 degrees.
