My new mazda3 manual somehow doesn't include a tachometer. What is the best/easiest way for me to get RPM info? I don't want to use my phone for it, as I want to keep it as a phone. I am leaning towards a scangaugeE that plugs into my ODBii. Is there an easy analogue tachometer I can get installed?

I used a Scangauge II in my last vehicle and never had any issues.

Torque is an Android application. Use a bluetooth gizmo (~$15) with your OBD-II port. Lots of other things to monitor too like temps, vacuum, real time MPG, trip MPG.

Whoops...I missed that. Still, the phone still works as a phone even while Torque is running. And, many of us have a little phone holder on our dash for using the phone as a traffic/nav device.

No tach on a manual transmission car? That's odd.

For an analog tach, Autometer is the best brand to purchase. There are many styles and such that you can view off their website. Actual hookup depends on the ignition system. There may be adapters and such you need to buy. It does tend to have a "race-car" look to it, so this may not be what you are after.

In my Mustang, i went with a shiftlight, and not a full aftermarket tach. The light has setable RPM "pills" so you can pick what RPM to shift at. When the light blinks, you can shift. benefit is that it's small and discreet and many people don't even know what it iss

Get HUD that fits your wallet. They ALL have RPMs plus much more. Also, Ultragauge is about half price anyway. But then you'll hassle with where to stick the box and as years of using SG - have my word, it is NOT an easy task. HUD on the other hand.....

on top of the steering column seems like a pretty good place to put them
