I'm in the market for something fun, a third car to throw the kids and the dog into for short drives, tailgating, coffee run and just plain cruising around in. I'm leaning towards a convertible of some sort.

Budget: 8-10K

I'm leaning towards an old jeep, possible an early 70s Jeepster Commando

Throw me some suggestions!

Late 90's TJ Jeep. They are just so much more evolved vehicles vs CJ/YJ.

Do not settle for a 4 cylinder. They are gutless.

I agree with the Jeep, Eastcoasting . . . a 70's up until '86 CJ-7.

Not only does it "fit" your budget and needs, it will continue to hold its value over the years plus always ready and able to attract very positive comments / compliments.

For a second there, thought it was 80-100k, then we'd have something to talk about. For 8-10k you find more fixers than funners.

Just saying.

Weird, I can't post a link to autotrader. Oh well.

Found a nice BMW 330i convertible with under 70k on it for $9k.

Ha! If I was spending 80-100K there wouldn't be much fun for muddy kids and a wet dog!

Fixin' can be part of the fun.

Great advice! I was younger and "settled" for a Jeep that was a 4cyl. HUGE MISTAKE! They are severely underpowered and I'd find myself having to drive around in 4th gear just to have any sort of pickup.
