I don't know which was MT's Car of the Year in '58, but I'm going to guess it was the Corvette. The song I'm thinking of was something like "My Little Red Corvette." The T-Bird was also introduced as a 2-seater (55-57), but I can't recall a song about it.

Google time....

That was, I believe, a '32 Ford coupe.

Annette, who knew the Beach Boys and recorded with them, had a T-Bird and a strict Italian Daddy.

The question is misleading because:
T-Birds came in 2 AND 4 seat versions
Production was interrupted twice
Last model year was 2005 and is not produced anymore.
Who the hell knows what was Motor Trend car of the year in 1958? (They must be kidding)

Without looking at Google, I am going to guess the T bird also.

There was a song titled "Thunderbird", by the hair rock band Quiet Riot, though I don't know if it is about the car or something else.

I'm pretty sure that the folks on Jeopardy were looking for the song Fun, Fun, Fun by the Beach Boys.

I guess that I must be older than you, because the first (and only) make that came to mind when I was watching the show last night was, "Oldsmobile". Naturally, the, "distractors", offered by the OP did not exist on the TV show.

Ransom Olds' first successful model, the 1901 "Curved Dash" Oldsmobile, was indeed a 2-seater, and it was celebrated in the popular song, "In My Merry Oldsmobile".

However, I had no recollection of which cars won the Motor Trend award in '58, '87, '89, & '02. I actually doubted that Olds had won that title on multiple occasions (and especially as late as '02), but its 2-seat origin & a song that was very popular at the time had me thinking only of Oldsmobile.

Actually, it is not misleading in the way that you think it is.
When the T-Bird was introduced, in 1955, it came ONLY in a 2-seat version.
That continued through the '57 model year.

In 1958, Ford introduced the 4-seater T-Bird, which was nicknamed, The Square Bird, due to its shape & proportions. Once the 4-seater T-Birds were introduced, the 2-seaters were no longer manufactured--until the last (brief) iteration of the model.
