We had a '72 Cutlass for a second car for several years with no problems. They were usually good for 120-175K give or take, rust would kill them first.
Amazingly rust hasn't caused me any problems yet even though it spent 15 years driving around Cleveland with all the road salt.
My mother's new Sonata (the car she got to give me the Cutlass) didn't fare as well after only about 3 years, though she was able to get it repaired through the recall, after joning a class-action lawsuit. The recall for salt corrosion applied only to vehicles currently registered in salt-belt states, but we'd moved to NC the year before. The lawsuit extended the recall to vehicles that were registered in those states for over a year.
