MOUNT HOPE, N.Y., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Authorities in New York state said a woman allegedly distracted by her cellphone drove into a herd of cows.
Mount Hope police said Daisy Cowit, 21, of Wawayanda was allegedly using her cellphone as she drove into a herd of cows crossing the road, striking six cows and nearly injuring two farm hands, the Middletown Times Herald-Record reported Tuesday.
Wish the link would have said what time of the day this happened. Was it during daylight hours or after dark? If during daylight hours, HOW DO YOU NOT SEE COWS ON THE ROAD?
Other thing not being asked in the story is why was the farmer's cows on the road? In some communities, a farmer can be held responsible (varies from community to community) for their livestock getting onto public roads.

Where my dairy farm was, central MN, to hold the farmer liable you had to prove he had a history of his cows running loose on the road.

The article said that she almost hit two herders as well. It's very possible that this road is in the middle of someone's property, and they were herding cows from one pasture to another. In that case, it's not the cow-owners/herders fault. It's her fault for thinking she didn't need to look up from her cell phone while driving.
How sad. This farmer may lose 3 cows because of this stupid twit!
Witnesses at the Hosking farm claimed the driver was texting. Mount Hope police Chief Paul Rickard said the driver, Daisy Cowit, 21, of Wawayanda, denied that but said she was looking down to check an incoming call, but in any event "it wasn't like a quick glance down."
Or as Hosking put it, "If you don't see 50 cows in the road, you're doing something (you shouldn't be doing)."

How is looking down to check an incoming call any different than texting? In both cases, you take your eyes off the road. It's completely arbitrary to say that if you look down for more than x seconds, it becomes dangerous. No, it's dangerous whenever you're not paying attention when you control a moving motor vehicle.
Btw, my question is directed at the little quip you posted lol (read my post back and it seems like I'm directly addressing you)

Stupid, stupid woman. She should be charged with attempted murder.
