It is rare if I fill up before being under a quarter tank. Pretty much the only time that happens is if I'm going on a long trip.

My dad when I started to drive would say keep your tank 1/2 full at least especially in the winter. He said it could get watered down. I have no idea if he was just saying that so I would not run out of gas by letting the tank get too low. I fill it up between 1/4 and 1/2.

I keep five $20 bills rolled up in a 35mm film canister (remember those?) in my toolkit. And another filled with quarters although pay phones are a thing of the past, but old habits die hard.

Because of my commute and running errands on the weekends I fill up about every 5 or 6 days. I often let it go below 50 miles-to-empty and it starts beeping at me. And sometimes I only have 20 bucks on me which buys about 6 gallons these days, and I refuse to pay a higher price to charge my gas.

Eh... I have no problems paying with a cc.
With the 5% cash back... the difference is bearable.

Keeping the tank full cannot hurt. Both your vehicle and your preparedness.

Im with you. I could have $100 in my pocket and will not use it to pump gas, prefer to use the card and get my reward points. The other day gas was $2.99 a gallon cash or $3.03 a gallon charged. On a 16 gallon tank paying cash would have cost me $47.84 whereas charging it would have been $48.48. I fill up so often with my long commuting id be constantly taking money out just to fill up because I would not want to carry that much money on me at all times. I treat my cc like cash and pay off my charges as they occur, not only do I improve my credit but I have also gone on a Disney vacation with my family free of charge thanks to reward points.
