Hi,
I have moved from OH to TX and have my car all registered for TX. I still have my Ohio Title and registration. Can I toss that or do I need to hang on to that for legal purposes?

Do you have your next Texas title? Are you owned any money for your unused Ohio reg?

How did you get a Texas title, without turning in your Ohio title? At the very least, keep it for a year, so next year, you can prove you don't owe any Texas back taxes.

I always keep my paper trails for about 5 years. Rarely ever have to get them out, but they are there if I ever need them. If for no other reason, to refresh my memory on how much I paid for things. Just throw everything in a box, and once every couple of years, take off the bottom two years and throw them away.

I keep all receipts and paperwork. I label a box 2013 and stick all the receipts and paperwork in there from that year. Beginning of new year, I seal up that box and start a new box (2014).

Anyway I HAVE the receipts and paperwork going back 10 years (10 boxes). Amazing how often I need to dig something out. It is there if I need it.

Note: I have a LOT of friends who automatically throw out all paperwork and later regret it. (Save everything!)

If you itemize taxes, your registration tax may be tax deductible. If it is, save it.
