I only had my 1995 Isuzu Rodeo which got terrible safety ratings and no airbags until I bought another car in 2008. The transmission dying was the reason I let it go, but with kids, it was about time I got rid of it anyway.
Never had one. Seat belts work pretty good when you wear them properly - belt over the shoulder. How many think they can slip the shoulder belt behind them and be held in place? That's why bags are a mandatory item on every new car. People left that decision to the government so we all must live with it. There goes personal responsibility.
I would rather have a 5 point racing harness if I really needed airbags.
The poll question makes it sound like you want to know the year we purchased our first vehicle that had an air bag, but your followup post makes it sound like the model year of the first car we owned that had an air bag. Which are you looking for?
I believe my first was a 1991 Dodge Dynasty purchased in 1996. Neither of my current vehicles (1989 Caprice and 1990 D150) has one.
when at 5mph would knock you out or the and burn your wrists from the hot gasses from the chemical reaction that it was safer to not have one then have one.
