$1500 on a $21 000 car for tax, registration, and all that? I need to move to TX then. It's basically 10% sales tax plus all those whistles here. Adds another thousand or so. I am envious, or you do not know your taxes.
Simply walk away. Take a piece of paper and a pen. Write on it $20, 500.00, final offer, hand it to sales guy and walk away. Have no doubt by now, he has your phone number. If he calls you, you do NOT come back, unless he clearly confirms that price out the door. Things like "we can work something out" only mean he'll try to sell it for more.
No need to make this complicated. Tell them your final offer is $20,500. If they let you walk there wasn't wiggle room. If they lower the price then there was.
DO it in the next week. This time is DEAD in the auto business if they are going to deal it will be before the end of the month. End of month, end of quarter, end of year! There are so many deadlines they are hitting against they will want to move it NOW

Came here to say this. This is probably the best time of year to purchase a new car. Good luck.
im looking at new 2013 impala's, malibus ,sonatas for less than 20k up this way
i agree with the other posters... you need to be black and white- very rigid,,these folks negotiate for a living,,,they have the upper hand as soon as you open your mouth-so as one poster said,,,print out the listing,,,write what YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY on the listing,,,and walk away,,thats it,,
THEY NEED TO AGREE WITH YOU..not the other way around,,
i hate dickering,,,,
its a game to them,,,so---lay down your price,,and leave,,,,
and for gods sakes dont have coffee with them afterwards,,,so they get to show you all the different costs ....
leave- slip out the back jack,,,no need to be coy roy, hop off the bus , gus,,,no neeeed to discuss muchhh ,,,

Texas Motor Vehicle Sales Tax is 6.25%. If there is a trade-in, the tax is charged on the difference between the sales price and the trade-in allowance. Registration and new title application fee adds about another $100. Many dealers add a nominal "Documentary Fee" for processing the paperwork at their end. So $1500 sounds about right for a $21,000 vehicle purchase.
