In my 2004 MINI, I have a 13.2 gallon tank according to the manual, but I have put more than that in there on MANY occasions. The most being 13.92 gallons. I guess the filler neck is pretty good size. At my average mileage (23.26 MPG) I could go 324 miles on that. At my best mileage for a tank (31.2 MPG) , 434 miles. At the stated capacity, I am at 307 and 412.

In My Wife's 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, it holds 22 gallons according to the manual, but we have only ever put 20.5 in it. Her average MPG is 16.43 (short commute, aerodynamics like a brick) 338 miles. At her best mileage. (20.5 MPG) about 420. Though, I suppose we could stretch that out another 30 miles or so.

BTW I have always kept track of ever fill up in my cars. I used to use Excel and had some pretty cool graphs and conditional formatting, but now I have transitioned over to an iPhone app called Road Trip. Gives me some nice graphs and lots of info. Pretty cool to see that the most I ever paid for gas in the MINI, which takes 93 octane was $4.37 and the lowest, $1.98. OR see the increase in MPG over the first few tanks of a new car as the engine breaks in. It only takes a few seconds to enter the info in and it will even locate the stations on a map by using GPS. My wife does not like to track mileage, but if she ever gets gas without me, she just has to send a picture of the odometer and the pump and I do it.

The app is $4.99, but well worth it as it keep track of any expenses you want and can remind you based on time and mileage when they are due again for multiple vehicles. iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/road...el/id298398207 Developer's web site with lots more example graphs: http://darrensoft.ca/roadtrip/ (no affiliation other than being a satisfied customer)

That's really good. I have a '98 SL1, also with a 12.1 gallon tank. On the freeway, I could only get about 350-375 miles (at 300 miles, it took 10 gallons to fill it, so some to spare). Around town, I get about 300 with my short distance driving.

My mom's old minivan, I'm not sure how big the tank was, but we regularly went over 500 miles on one tank, and the mileage wasn't that great, so I'm sure the tank was a beast.

13.2 gallons. Normally refuel at 1/4 tank, average about 278 miles between fill ups.

Normally 17 Gallons in the front tank and 19 Gallons in the rear tank on my 91 F250 shortbed but I swapped in Aftermarket tank and fuel pump and lines that allow me to run 19 Gallons in the front tank and 19 Gallons in the Rear tank like the Longbox version 87-97 F250/F350

Now Depending if I am towing/hauling or off-Roading or driving the open road on the FWY unloaded or city bumper to bumper daily driving my overall fuel economy varies between 5/6MPG-13/14MPG

Jetta Diesel ....14.5 tank but can fill to around 16 and change. One tank I got 50 mpg but I filled up at 613...should have been good for nearly 800 miles.

Heres where my car sucks. It literally bothers me every time im in it, and ill probably sell it because of it.

new style scion xb.

14 gal tank. no problem.

20 mpg avg. (not what i expected, and not good, but not the end of the world).

when Range left is zero, and fuel light has been on for a few miles, i fill up, it takes 10.5 gals. So you never can use the 3.5, and as such, i get gas every 200 miles. Wastes alot of time. You literally start looking for a gas station once the needle moves below quater tank. I dont drive that much, and its still twice a week sometimes. I was spoiled by my accord, never had these issues.

How do you know you can't use those last 3 gallons? I would stretch it another 20-30 miles at least and see what happens (of course when I had a cell phone and someone I could call to rescue me if it died, or a can of gas with me :-)) I would rather the monitoring system be conservative but once I know my car I use that as guidance not the absolute truth.
