By definition I am using premium as cars that are cut above your basic sedan but not in the true luxury category.
In the $40- $45000 which range which I can put up soon ,I could buy a brand new Buick or Chrysler 300 or a entry level Lexus ES class or Mercedes C class.
But there are 3 to 4 year old used Lexus LS class and Mercedes S class sedans and Cadillac CTS-Vs that are $70-$90000 when new that selling for $40,000 with 30000-50000 miles or so from 2008 to 2010 model years.

If you had the cash, would you by the brand new Buick/Chrysler/Lexus ES/Mercedes C class or would you by the super luxury used 3 to 5 year old Lexus LS/Mercedes S Class/Cadillac with 30000-50000 miles?

The maintenance costs are going to eat you alive if you buy a used S-class/7-series/A8/etc. You can't afford it.

This.

Buying a used luxury car, even though they have depreciated to the price point of a new premium car, are still going to carry the same high dollar service and maintenance requirements.

Unless you can truly afford a luxury car and just want to buy a used one to save yourself the depreciation vs buying new, you shouldn't purchase one just because they've hit a price point that is in your budget.

I think, OP, you need first to determine, what is that you will accept as luxury and premium. Luxury is not just leather and maybe better looking plastics and some faux wood, or a bunch of servos with buttons so that you do not do anything by hand. Luxury is thing called QUALITY, luxury is philosophy, luxury is a vehicle with reputation and pedigree. I don't think, anything in Buick, or even Cadillac will get you there. Lexus is almost there, as they tried very hard to become a new MB.
So, truly, it is what YOU will be comfortable with. Like paying $1200 for oil change on new MBs. Then again, it's done every 60 000 miles. It's a lot to weigh, OP.

Wow, Mercedes has a 60kmi oil change interval now? and $1200 too? I guess that makes the 4-yr free maintenance program pretty worthless.

My local MBZ dealer only charges $100 for an oil change: Smythe European | Service Discount Offers

I didn't even consider what the maintenance costs would be on a luxury vehicle. I've never owned one and have no idea how much something like even a simple oil change might cost more. Definitely something to consider.

There is no increased cost for maintenance for a luxury car. Oil and tires cost the same regardless of the vehicle they are used on.
