A decent camera at 720p will provide more than enough detail to determine what actually happened. I'd like two, one front one rear and wide angle lenses.
It was my first dashcam, so it was basically a test piece for $30 and it does what it needs to do. Yes, it's fine for simple recording, but I'm looking more for movie quality to record long trips and the car at different angles. If I'm going to spend $250 to do that, I'd like a more compact package than what the GoPro or the Garmin provides. At least something thinner.

By discreet I mean like this:

I didn't go with one of those because I wanted to have a display on it, otherwise I would have to develop a setup to display it on a monitor, which I will do later if/when I upgrade the stereo system. This discreet dashcam would be for the dash only, as I can always buy another video recorder to do more complicated stuff.

Do you guys have the link to the shop page? I am strongly considering buying this. I have been using the Garmin 3790LMT and it's awesome. No complaints for years. I'd love to invest in Garmin again.

My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 can record 4k video and record with both cameras at the same time. Great for showing my steering wheel turns and the traffic ahead and has video stabilization.

Whoever buys these 1 Garmin dimensional devices are still on Blackberry or iPhone 4.

Any current gen Android phone records great video and tons of apps to handle dashcam video recording.

I am afraid I may want to get into an accident if I have one of these.

Nice find, PokerMunkee!

I really like the fact that it mounts to the back of the rearview mirror, which is really the best spot. I think I am going to get one of these for my car.

The deal breaker in all of these is the power cord. I can't have another power cord dangling in the car. Is there any solution? Battery operated etc.

If you are even moderately "handy", run the power cords hidden by the interior trim, over to the fuse-block or such.
I have a smart phone windshield mount for Nav, and another for my radar detector. Each one only has about 2" of cable showing. The rest is tucked away under the headliner trim pieces and then inside the dash.
No soldering, very little wire twisting. A fair amount of net-research. Maybe 30 min each actual work, and it looks really nice.
It also leaves my cigarette lighters available for power outlets for other stuff, (I have a cigarette-lighter-to-USB-charger plug in it).
