I would be concerned because he feels that all of this devices will somehow provide him with a safety net. They will in some circumstances, for instance a crash avoidance system will prevent him from rear ending someone, but most of these are really tools to make driving easier by enhancing existing skills. I think don1945's approach is the correct one. He is viewing them as a way to make doing the right thing easier, not as a way to cover up mistakes and laspes in judgement.
My own parents are 68 and 73 and while quite active they aren't the best drivers anymore. The one benefit is that they recognize their shortcomings and admit to them. My mom has a very hard time driving at night, so she doesn't drive at night. However, she is not going out and buying a car with night vision so she can.
