AAA is $110 for a year, and I am considering purchasing a membership as I will save $40 on a hotel stay in February. Assuming I don't travel outside my home city much, is a membership worth it? Are there other things I might get discounts on or is it simply peace of mind in the event my car breaks down? Are there any discount codes you may be aware of? I have seen AAA ads in my mailbox in the last six months but cannot put my hands on one now.

Many hotels will give you equal rates if you book online. It seems rare to find a AAA member discount better than others that are available.

Yes, the discounts available will pay for the membership.

AAA Member Discounts, Find AAA Deals in Your Area

If all you need is roadside assistance, check with your insurance carrier. They may be able to add this service on to your coverage for much cheaper than $110 a year.

The will bring you petrol if you misjudge and run out, charge your battery, plan vacation or business trips, discount car rental, as well as tow your car in the event of a breakdown. On the negative side I have heard stories of people waiting for hours for AAA to arrive.

as we travel several times back to WI each year, we always keep our AAA active. Knock on wood never used it for roadside assist, but between hotels and other discounts it's close to paying for itself. And piece of mind for us anyway is worth something anyway.

Every time I have ever had car trouble, I've been glad to have AAA. It's worth it to me.

Like AARP once they know you it's junk mail for the rest of your life.

I once experienced painfully excruciatingly slow service when transferring ownership of a car at an AAA office. Since then I have avoided them.

We have road service 3 times now on our newest car. Ford provides it for a year, our insurance provides it, and we have AAA. The problem with the insurance is you have to pay it up front, then get reimbursed. With AAA it's worth it to just call and give your member#. The maps and travel planning services help justify it. Naturally with GPS you don't need maps as much any more, but it's good to have them as backup and the tour books have great information on lodging, restaurants and attractions.
