ok brief history. last week. got tie rods fixed but they couldnt do a wheel alignment because my ball joints were bad $1355 to fix. i dont have that kind of money. so yesterday morning, i pull out my garage and go out my development. next thing u know flat tire. now im in minnesota. it's cold but the roads are pretty clear. changed tire to the spare. problem is the spare has no tread. ITS BALD. havent made it to tire shop yet. and now the SPARE IS FLAT. is that just a coincidence? is it flat from driving on a bald tire or are the bad ball joints causing this?? or maybe i ran over the same thing twice.
Bad ball joints don't puncture tires. You either ran over the same thing twice, or there wasn't enough pressure in the tire to begin with and in the cold weather, you lost even more pressure. Try pumping up the spare and see if it holds air.
Find out why they went flat.. Get a bottle of soapy water.. Formula 409.. Whatever.. put some air in the tire.. Spray it with the soapy solution, look for where the bubbles start.
If there's a big 'ol piece of metal.. Nail.. Something like that where the bubbles are..
It sounds POSSIBLE at least that some nails or something 'fell' off a vehicle, you hit several with the main tire, picked up another with the spare.
Why would they go through the trouble of checking the spare for why it went flat?? It's BALD. That's probably the reason it went flat. But it doesn't matter. Shouldn't be driving on it.
daboywonder2002, try to get a tow to the tire shop, don't risk driving on a flat.
-You will need to find out if the regular tire is fixable, or if it needs to be replaced.
-You will need to replace the spare tire.
-You will need to make sure they check the condition of the other 3 tires.

Because the question they asked was "Is it a coincidence?"
Get a big can of Fix-A-Flat, get the spare inflated enough to get you to a tire shop, then tell them it's full of the stuff before they break the bead. They won't be happy about it, but at least they won't want to kill you - like they will if the stuff blows up all over them.
Hopefully they can fix both your regular tire, and the flat. If not, they should be able to fix you up with used tire for the spare, and maybe even for the regular tire. If you have to buy new, buy a pair of new tires, and have the new ones mounted on the front of your fwd car.
By the way, the ball-joints (if they are indeed bad) have no bearing on a random flat tire.

The first question that I would ask is... When was the last time that you checked the pressure in your spare tire?
If the answer is...I don't know...or...Isn't my mechanic supposed to do that for me?...or...I checked it more than 1 year ago, then you have found the culprit, and the culprit is...you.
Unfortunately many people give little attention to the 4 tires that provide the only contact between their car and the road, and even more people give little or no attention to their spare tire. Every tire will lose some pressure over time, and if that time period has been...extensive...then it is entirely possible for your spare tire to have gone flat in the...who knows how long...interval that elapsed after the last time that its pressure was checked.
The moral of the story is that the most basic parts relating to automotive safety are your tires and your brakes. And, "tires" includes your spare tire. If you ignore them, or if you expect a bald tire to be a reliable item, then you really have to re-think your approach to automotive maintenance.
